What Becomes of the Broken : “At Last” (Finale)

    At last

    The skies above are blue

My heart was wrapped up in clover

The night I looked at you

"I’ve asked Bette to marry me and she has accepted."

It was one large gasp throughout the room and then applause and smiles. The congratulatory praises came close after and tears followed that. It was a good thing, everyone concured, because if two people deserved to fall in love, it was Helena Peabody and Bette Porter.

    I found a dream

    That I could speak to

A dream that I can call my own

    I found a thrill

    To rest my cheek too

A thrill that I have never known

    THE NEXT MORNING

Alice began her radio show, The Chart, talking about love and the way it evolved and changed and what becomes of the people who lose love.

"My discussion question this morning is ‘what becomes of a broken woman?’ What does she do. Does she sulk for the rest of her life or pick up her pieces? Does she lose the love of her life, or whom she assumed was the love of her life, and just crawl into a hole and die? Does she move on? Does she allow someone to take advantage of her over and over before she finally finds someone to love her? Well, listeners, I have two friends who could easily answer that question. My friend, Helena Peabody, who I sure you guys know as the woman who had all this money and lost it, was a broken woman. So much so that she allowed a woman who shall remain nameless use her for both sexual and financial reasons for more than three months before she grew tired of it. Another friend of mine, Bette Porter–an ex-girlfriend of mine, probably the hottest woman in West Hollywood, if not all of California, was just as broken if not more than Helena. She lost the love of her life, to a man no less. Not that she wasnt at fault, but the woman was completely devestated. When Helena and Bette finally decided to get together, not only were they hot together, they also brought each other back up. Restored their alpha qualities as well as their faith in love. I know they restored mine. So, to answer my question, the broken come together and they pick their pieces up together. Helena and Bette got engaged last night and are probably planning the most extravangant and beautiful wedding you’ll ever see. So this one goes out to you guys, from your good friend Alice. I love you guys bunches. ‘At Last’ by Etta James. Enjoy."

    And you smiled, you smiled

And then the spell was cast

And here we are in Heaven

    For you are mine

    At last

    THE END

    1. One of my most favorite songs for a wonderful story ending and a new life beginning. Another fave is “A Song For You” sung by Donny Hathaway. He sings it the best. The lyric that is brilliant….. “I love you in a place where there’s no space or time”

    2. Ahh ash that was so pretty and I love Etta James song At Last, you should listen to Chrisitna Aguilera’s version too. Gotta love Alice liked how she summed up both of thier lives when it came to their past loves and the real deal!!!

    3. Alice’s radio monologue and “At Last” were an inspired way to close out this terrific story. I’ll miss it but I’m looking forward to your next Belena yarn.

    4. wow Ash this was beautiful, it really was. It’s sad to see it came to an end but I’m pretty sure you have another great one in store for us. Thanks hun.
