What Becomes of the Broken: Ever Fallen in Love?

"I’ll be there in a ten to fifteen minutes. Is that a problem?"

"No, just come over. I need you."

Kit held her sobbing sister, "You’re nothing like him, Bette. Yes, what you did to Tina was foul, but you didn’t do it because of some primal urge to just cheat on your wife, girl. You did it because you were stressed. Doesn’t make it no better, but at the very least you loved Tina. You loved her with all your heart, I could see it in your eyes and you still love her. I see the way you look at Angelica. Daddy may have loved us both, but he only loved the parts of us that he could tame. You love that little girl with all your heart. You’re a better man than Daddy ever was." Kit’s statements evoked a laugh out of Bette, even through the tears.

    "Thanks, Kit. I love you."

"I love you too, baby sis." Kit released Bette, "What else is wrong, though? I can tell something else is bothering you."

    "It’s Helena…"

"And the fact that you’re absolutely crazy about her?"

    "Yeah…wait, what? How’d you know?"

"I’m your big sister and I know all. You think I didn’t notice how blissful you looked when you two walked back into Henry’s house after you had been missing for an hour, or how she went home with you after the basketball game? How about the night of my performance for my album. I saw you two making eyes at each other."

"You knew about all of that?"

"Yeah, girl. As if you can fool me."

    "Apparently I can’t."

    "And you never could."

    One Week Later

Bette had been putting off talking to Jodi and Helena for a week. She wanted to at least wait until Jodi was in town. She didn’t like ‘over the phone’ or long distance break ups. Not to mention she was just scared. As bad as Jodi was for her, it was working and to leave that to venture into something so unknown was like commiting suicide and who was to say that Helena was being sincere. This was, afterall, the woman who hated her at some point. Who was to say it wasn’t some ridiculous plot to hurt her again.

    1. Ash another good chapter,,,,I liked how you had Bette have a nightmare of Melivn tellin gher she was like him, I would have noever thought of that scene but it was acurate IMO. But she loved and controlling and that is a dangerous combo. Love Kit, she has always been the voice of reason when it comes to Bette and the rest of the gang. Loved how Helena comforted Bette that night and that was love not using a person. Also, lovedhow Bette finally made the decision to talk to Jodi and also to see that Helena decided at the same time to give Bette a piece of her mind,,LOL,,sure hope that Jodi tells Bette I think it good we do this and Helenea arrives to hear tha tpart….once again loved it.

    2. The fact that Helena didn’t push things when post-nightmare Bette said she’d rather sleep than talk shows how sensitive Helena is to Bette’s needs. But I love the passion of pissed-off Helena too! These two definitely belong together.
