What If Tina Was the Cheater? (Part 2 of 2)
"Wendy?! Our gardner?" she starts, becoming manic. I can hear it in her voice. I know the confession won’t ease her mind, but she needs to know, and I will be honest with her, regardless of my own discomfort.
She walks a few steps forward, her bottom lip quivering and her eyes tearing up. She looks so hurt and infuriated I know I have to speak quickly or she won’t stay to hear it.
"Bette – please! I can explain."
The word just barely escapes my lips as I feel it. The slap is so shocking and so energized, my head turns and my cheek stings more than I would have expected – not that I was expecting this from her.
I remember to breathe and bring a hand to my cheek as I compute the power of her arm. Honestly, I believe I deserve more punishment, but I never would have thought she would hit me.
"I’m sorry." She says it with anger, but still she feels obligated to apologize. Somehow I knew she would, even given her attitude.
By the time I look up to her, she’s turned in another direction. I don’t blame her for her outburst.
I try to focus and ignore the throbbing pain in my cheek as I look at her closely, reading her eyes, her lips. Everything about her. I can see she is about to speak again, so I keep quiet.
"I … was faithul to you for eight years," she breathes, looking up at me now in tears, and I want to die. "… I was so good to you, Tina." She collapses into our small chair by the bed, and her instant depression kills me. She deserves so much better than this. God, she’s so perfect. Sometimes it takes these horrible life-changing events to prove how we really feel. Of course, by then our lives have changed.
As I’m thinking about this horrible sadness, her beautifully sad eyes lock with mine, and she’s swimming in sorrow. "Why?"
"I don’t have any excuses," I say, tearing up now.
"Oh don’t even try that innocent game with me," she says angrily, and suddenly the entire atmosphere has changed. She has shifted from broken girlfriend to all-business Porter.

Hey GrindRight, Absolutely beautifully written. You capture all of the hurt, desolation and guilt that Tina felt while describing Bette’s pain and betrayal. This was difficult and yet so rewarding to read. I want these women to find a way passed this horrible event and reunite their love. This was the final act of desperation for a love lost and hopefully not forever. You make me weep with your wonderful words and emotive descriptions.Thank you so much.Your Loyal Fan and Friend.
Heartbreaking, but wonderfully written…thank you, and thank you to the person who gave you the idea!
That was a powerful reverse of characters behavior. I like how you allowed the reader to be in the head of Tina.
