You (Part the Forty-Ninth)
Dana woke up still wrapped in Alice’s tight embrace. She decided to stay where she was for a minute, since Alice tended to be very reluctant about waking up even under the best of circumstances. Still, after a few minutes of dozing she realized that the call of nature was going to win out over the fear of Alice’s early morning gruffness whether she wanted it to or not.
“Baby,” she said softly, trying to wake Alice up by degrees so as not to startle her too much. “Al.”
“Wuzzat?” Alice asked sleepily, nuzzling even closer into Dana.
“Al, come on, let me go. I need to pee.”
“Nuh uh,” Alice muttered. She was still asleep, though, and not quite able to contribute wholeheartedly to the discussion, so Dana tried to move her arm.
“Seriously, sweetie, I need to get up.”
“No. Not time yet,” Alice mumbled, kissing Dana’s shoulder and refusing to move her arm enough to let Dana out of bed.
Dana tried to stifle a giggle. “Well, let’s put it this way. If you don’t let me up, this bed is going to be more like a water bed in the next few minutes. Come on, Al, I’ll come back. I promise.”
“But I like waterbeds,” Alice protested sleepily, still not letting up her hold. Dana smiled, since it was pretty obvious Alice had heard nothing more than the word “waterbed” out of what Dana had actually said.
“Not this kind, you won’t. I don’t think golden showers are something we need to introduce into our relationship at this point in our lives,” she said with a smile. She could practically feel Alice grimace.
“Gross, Dane,” Alice mumbled.
“I know. So, you gonna let me up before I pee in the bed?”
Alice finally seemed to wake up a little, and moved her arm enough so Dana was able to get out of bed. “Have at it,” she muttered, squinting at Dana for a second before closing her eyes again and snoring. Dana just laughed and walked to the bathroom. Upon her return, she discovered that Alice had gone ahead and flopped herself all over the bed, leaving no room for Dana to rejoin her. Glancing at the alarm clock and figuring she might as well get up anyway, Dana grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a sports top as well as the pads for her bra out of the bathroom and got dressed as she went into the living room. She heaved a sigh when she found Socks still asleep, as spread out in the cat bed as Alice was in the people version.

holy crap i am the first to leave a comment!! yippi for me. ok, so you totally made my day muted with your danish loving ways. i love how real they are in your story and how they communicate with one another, further more, i know you are no IC and would not split our danish up, but i am glad you included her in the story, i like her character, just not the coupling, ya know what i am saying?! thanks for the update muted :)
hey lady. this was wonderful as always. you have such a firm, confident grip on the emotions of these two. it makes me feel ridiculously frivolous. and the stuff at the beginning with al and dana and socks. so effing cute.
Just when I don’t think this can get any better, it does! Loved the Soapbox derby racing and furniture designer bits! Socks is still oh so cute and Al and Dana are closer than ever. Fantastic. I’ll hold you to those 100 parts you promised me! :)
MT, are you writing comedy now? 1st was the waterbed, then socks sleeping like A, followed by the muffins, H falling asleep, march back to A Shrink’s office, five of ’em, hugging a fluffy little fuzzball, gigantic number of channels: 5, eagle swoop down and roost in A’s hair. The funnies just went on and on. Begin a furniture designer & a musician were clever. I could totally picture the two of them in a Miata convertible. It was wonderful to see them having a break from all the heavy stuff. Thanks for taking them to Avenue of the Giants, a truly magical place. I can’t think of a better place for them to visit even though it is another 4 hours north of SF. Oh maybe on the way back they can stop by SF for some fun too. I believe this is the 1st time I read the two of them in a Jacuzzi and it was hotter than the water temperature. Love that S, the yoda who gave D some excellent advice. What a great friend Shane truly was. Did Shane want to ask Dana something but did not have time to do so? “…they’d never felt more connected” completely melted my heart. What a touching ending and a fantastic chapter! MT, you continue to amaze me with your fine writing and story telling. I read somewhere that you are going to school and working long hours. I hope you get to attend to your health first. I love reading your posts as long as you have the time to write. I am sure we all can wait. Thank you again.
“…There’s this quiet inside me here and it makes me realize how small I am…like no matter how scared I get, it’ll be okay because if a place like this can exist, there’s got to be something more out there,” that was pretty deep, but the right sentiment. This trip was just what they needed and damn I am jealous. I want to have my own PCH adventure!
god i love this story and it just gets better with every post can’t wait to see how it all goes please post soon and great update as always
Very nice! The road trip sounded so cool, that I kinda wanted to be with them as well, lol. Glad to see them relaxed and away from the stress. Great update! :)
great chapter, glad you posted again, the road trip is definitely a good idea for the both of them. thanks for the update!
Great!!! I totally love them! I know I have said this probably a millions times, but you write them so well!!! Keep up the great work!!!!
