You Told Me You Love Me Part 8 (II)
“But what?” Sharon faced was full of concern. Irwin and Howie stood beside her looking intently at the doctor.
“But when she wakes up she might have a memory loss.”
“Memory loss? You mean she might not recognise any of us?” Irwin interrupted.
“Yes I’m afraid this is the case.”
“How long? When will she recover?” Howie asked, almost in tears.
“It’s very hard to predict. This has to depend on the patient itself. Some make it in weeks, some in years but some don’t remember at all. We will do a through check on her when she wakes up most probably two or three days later. By then we can tell how serious her memory loss is.” The doctor concluded and walked away from the family unit. After they process in what they heard, Howie was the first to speak.”
“I think Alice and her friends need a break from all the bad news. I will call them when Dana wakes up.” He walked away from her parents. Irwin and Sharon just looked at her son with tears in their eyes.
Two days later
All the friends including Alice were gathered at the hospital’s garden. They were anxious. Howie called them this morning and asked them to come over to the hospital in the afternoon. Alice felt a lump on her throat. She was tossing and turning uncomfortably around her bed on for two nights thinking something bad might have happened. Then Howie called to confirm her nightmare. She wanted to run to the hospital right after that call but Howie made her promised that she would wait after the gathering. All she could do was to pray hard that nothing happened to Dana. She would trade her own life for the brunette. She turned around as she heard footsteps approaching them.
“Howie.” Bette was the first to greet him. All of them followed shortly. Howie tried to smile but failed miserably. Alice felt her knees weakened at the sight. She knew something had happened.
“Hi guys.” Howie greeted back. There was an awkward silence.
“There’s something about Dana that I have to tell you.”
Alice clutched her hand to Shane’s tightly. She felt she could pass out anytime. Shane herself was feeling her heart beating faster. She swallowed hard.
