    Being called into active duty.

    Two weeks had passed. I had not been called into active duty and I was living life as a normal citizen. Ashley and I were back to our normal routine. This time, she wasn’t the only one with money. One of the perks of signing up for the army was the forty thousand dollar sign on bonus and the $1,500 pay check every two weeks.

    Ashley’s birthday was tomorrow. I wanted to take her out for dinner. It was a ritual that we had developed through the years. Every year on our birthdays we would take the other out to dinner and a fun night. On Christmas we would buy one another a gift. It was nothing big, but I always looked forward to those moments with her.

    We were driving downtown as always when I decided to ask her, “Hey Ash, where do you want to go this year for your birthday?”

    She looked at me as if she had completely forgotten all about it, “Umm…I actually haven’t given it any thought.”

    “Well, how about I just pick you up tomorrow night and we go out to dinner. Ya know, like always.”

    A smile slowly crept across her beautiful face, “Okay.” There was silence between the two of us for a moment and then she broke into a new topic, “So, what do you want to do tonight?”

    “I have absolutely no idea. I guess…I’m along for the ride, whatever you want to do.”

    Her smile grew larger, “I was hoping that you would say that.”

    This could either mean A)She found a huge drinking party that she wanted to go to, or B)She had a surprise planned, “Why?”

    “It’s a surprise.”

    “O…K…should I be scared?”

    She looked over at me, “Don’t worry, no alcohol or vomiting is included in this surprise, I promise.”

    I went home later on that day and I spent some time with my parents. Ashley said to be ready by seven and it was only going on 4:25. I sat in the living room with my parents. Glen and Clay both went back to the college life. My mother was finally relaxing after a long night shift at the hospital. My dad had just got off of work and he looked exhausted, “So, how was your basic training?”

    3. People drive me crazy sometimes with their lack of communication. Why couldn’t they just be honest with each other about their feelings? If they had, they could have spent those few weeks after Spencer came back form boot camp together doing…coupley things. But as you said, no Spashley for a while. *pouts* I’ll quit pouting if you update soon.
