Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 3: Trees, Monsters, and Swings. Oh, My!)

“Ash, where are we going?” Spencer asked as she leaned beck into the passenger seat of Ashley’s SUV.

It was just turning noon as the brunette arrived at the Carlin house unannounced asking for Spencer. Paula wasn’t amused, but Arthur was always happy to see Ashley. Something about her just seemed so genuine. When Paula answered the door to see her nemesis standing there, her somewhat cheery disposition quickly turned to a scowl, and if you’d ask her, she’d probably say that her day was shot from there on out.

Arthur was quick to intercept, though, making Paula clear the way and telling Ashley she could head on up to Spencer’s room, of course receiving a death glare from the older blonde, but he didn’t mind it so much. He hadn’t minded her small annoyances with him much at all since finding out about her escapades with her coworker, Ben Montanio.

Ashley greeted Arthur with a smile and a thank you, and then headed up to Spencer’s bedroom. Arthur had told her that Spencer was probably sleeping because they had attended church earlier that morning. Ashley felt instantly terrible that she had kept the blonde awake into the early hours of the morning via phone. But she didn’t feel like waiting long before she could see her, again, so she had a plan to take out her girlfriend for the day. Not necessarily a date, but just a chance to get away for a while. From Spencer’s descriptions of her mother during their phone conversations, Ashley felt that Spencer would appreciate her ‘coming to her rescue’ for at least a few hours.

Ashley stopped halfway up the stairs. She smirked and slyly took out her cell phone, pushing the first speed dial, which happened to be Spencer’s cell phone. The blonde answered on the third ring with a groggy hello, and Ashley couldn’t help but chuckle because with that one word she could tell that Spencer had, in fact, been sleeping. She nonchalantly started a conversation with the blonde while walking the rest of the way to her room. When she reached the closed door she knocked while still chatting to Spencer about this and that, but was told to hold on because ‘someone annoying was at her door, and she needed to make them leave,’ so they could resume their phone conversation.
