Taking the Long Way – (Chapter: 6: Reality Knocks)

I woke up to pounding at my studio front door. It sounded like there was a drum in my head.

“Spencer…Spencer go answer your door.” a voice beside me mumbled.

I sat up and reached for my cell phone on the nightstand. The clock read 6:33 am.  I looked over at the person beside me.  It was Jess….so much for no repeats.  Damn, too much alcohol.  I recall an intense, very hott make out session with Jess….on the pool table.  WHAT?!  Why would I do that?  Figures, as a game of Truth or Dare filters through the fog in my head….I rarely turn down a dare when I have liquid courage coursing through my veins. I vaguely remember paying a taxi to come all the way home.  Dumb…my truck was still at Kaylen’s house.  Yikes, I hope Kaylen got home ok!  I flipped open my phone as I shuffled downstairs to get the door.  I was glancing through my txt messages and saw that Kaylen had sent me one saying she was safe at home and that I had replied the same.  I opened the door still looking at my phone.

“Grams, why are you up so…..” I looked up.  Life as I knew it at that moment slowed down to a crawl.  The person at my door was NOT my grandmother.  Not even close.  I could feel my chest constricting.  Breathe Spencer. The phone slipped from my other hand and crashed to the floor.  The sound jolted me back.

    “Hi, I am …”

    “Ashley…?” I whispered.

“Yeah…how did you know that?  Oh right my grandma probably told you.  Silly me.  Listen…Spencer…right?  My grandma is having an emergency with one of her horses and was wondering if you could come over right away?” Ashley spilled out quickly.

My mind was going a million miles a minute.  I am pretty sure I was still drunk so I was fairly impressed with how all the pieces fell together for me in a split second.

    Girl from my dream..check.

    Her name is Ashley…check.

Grandma?  Horses?  Oh yeah Mrs. Davies….Shley…a nickname for Ashley…check check.

My brain made all the logical assumptions.  This is THE girl.  If she wasn’t then my mind had done a damn good job of creating her identical twin.  I felt a wave of nausea come over me.  I not sure if it was from my hangover or from all the overwhelming sensations going through me all at once.

    1. definatly one of the best stories i’ve seen. Try adding more ways to connect the two girls, thigns they have in common other than mrs. davies and the horses.

    2. Thank you for the comments joyceylovesspashley and McCoy123! McCoy123 I agree completely on the need to connect the two a bit more. I have already got that part down on paper and ready to post in a couple of days or so. Ashley and Spencer just don’t know it yet! Taking my time…hopefully with out dragging it out too much! ;)

    3. I just caught up with this story. I don’t know how it slipped through the cracks, but I really do love the orignality of this fanfic. Fast becoming one of my favs. On to the next update.
