Taking the Long Way – (Chapter: 6: Reality Knocks)

“Right…uh hold on let me change.”  I sprinted up to the loft grateful for the escape.

I finally got a look at myself in the mirror.  I recoiled.  WOW!  I had some serious bed head for sure, dark circles under my eyes and the white tank…yeah it was pretty much see through.  Way to go Spencer…great first impression.  My head was still pounding and I was now nervous as hell.

I came down the stairs…fully dressed this time. Hair and teeth brushed, face washed…some what presentable.

“Let’s start over.” I said.  I extended my hand “Nice to meet you Ashley, I’m Spencer.”

She took my hand. “Likewise…”  Our eyes met.  Sound went out of the room.  Air went out of my lungs.  Energy kept our hands together and we held on a little longer than necessary.  I saw a wall fly up behind her eyes.  She pulled her hand away quickly.

“I sure hope you washed your hands…hard to say where they have been the past few hours.”  She said coolly.

I blushed hard and instantly felt shy. “Yes, of course I did!” said with a bit of anger.

“So what is wrong with your Grandma’s horse?  Which one?” I asked changing the subject.

“It’s Pearl, please do you think you can come quickly to check on her.” she said her demeanor changing instantly.  “Grandma mentioned something like colic?”

I snapped to attention quickly at the word.  I switched from hung-over Spencer to professional Spencer in 0.2 seconds.

I let a flurry of questions fly.

“Is she standing or lying down?  Is she sweating?  Has she been pawing or kicking at her belly?

Ashley gave me a blank stare.

“Uh…I am not really a horse person, so I am not sure how to answer some of those questions.”  She replied.

“Of course you aren’t” I muttered.  As the term rich bitch entered my mind.  She was glaring at me.

“Anyway we need to hurry over there.  Did you drive?  My truck isn’t here.” I continued.

“Yes I drove” She said.  We both hurried out to the front drive.  Her car was a very nice black Porsche Cayenne SUV.  And that very nice SUV had the word “Bitch” written in slightly pink lipstick on the driver’s window.  For fucks sake…I couldn’t catch a break.  Ashley turned to me with the death glare.

“I am really sorry!” I said as I rushed forward and used the sleeve of my favorite sweatshirt I had rescued from Jess to wipe of the window.  “Jessie really is a nice girl, just a bit pissed off at me.  I will pay to have your SUV detailed”

She didn’t say a word she just got into her car.  I stood there not moving. I am sooo not hitting it off with this girl. She honked her horn scaring the holy hell out of me and gave me the ‘hurry up’ motion through the window.

She chirped the tires out of the driveway as we speed off to Mrs. Davies house.  I sneak a sideway glance at her in the driver’s seat.  Yup, she is still totally hott.  She has a pink flush to her tan cheeks and a concerned look on her face.  It is breath taking.

We sit in silence for the ten minute drive to Mrs. Davies’ house.  I tried to go through all of the steps in my mind for treating colic, but I couldn’t help but be distracted by the girl in the driver’s seat who has been the subject of my mind struggle for the past 2 weeks.

    1. definatly one of the best stories i’ve seen. Try adding more ways to connect the two girls, thigns they have in common other than mrs. davies and the horses.

    2. Thank you for the comments joyceylovesspashley and McCoy123! McCoy123 I agree completely on the need to connect the two a bit more. I have already got that part down on paper and ready to post in a couple of days or so. Ashley and Spencer just don’t know it yet! Taking my time…hopefully with out dragging it out too much! ;)

    3. I just caught up with this story. I don’t know how it slipped through the cracks, but I really do love the orignality of this fanfic. Fast becoming one of my favs. On to the next update.
