    Classical Repertoire… Chap 31

Bette couldn’t help but think that she could get used to this kind of life, they didn’t have to cook or clean and it was liberating. The relationship Tina had with them was amazing, it was so different and so simple. They were there when Tina was growing up, they were her friends and sometimes her family. She hadn’t noticed but Tina had bought a present for each of them, apparently it was something she did everytime she went away since she could remember, it was a tradition and one that Bette thought she may take up for her friends.

Bette had suffered from jetlag and Tina found it the cutest thing, as soon as they were settled she had flug herself on the bed and slept for what seemed like an eternity. In a way Tina was glad, it had given her time to catch up with everyone and find out how things were since she left. Tina had set up accounts for all of them and would send them money every month as life was hard for them. Tapiwa was a grandmother who had to support her family as she was the only one who was employed and Farai was suffering with HIV and Tina payed for the medication. She had contracted it from her husband who had since passed away and like Tapiwa she was also supporting her family. Tendai and Goodwill also had family suffering from AIDS and HIV and so Tina sent them money to try and help. In many ways, it was the money that Tina sent that kept them going. They were given a salary and food rations but that was only enough to feed them and not their family, so Tina made up the difference.

Tina was now lying on the bed next to Bette, just watching her sleep and pondering how she would tell Bette what she had on her mind. She couldn’t believe how much she loved this woman and how hard what she had to say would be. She had put it off for too long and it was something that needed to be said before they went anywhere. She was carressing Bette’s cheek and tracing the outline of her lips with her thumbs, Bette looked so peaceful when she slept and Tina cringed at the fact that it would soon be graced with a frown.

    2. Wow, I do know about the HIV deal in Africa and it is part of what I do for a living but to hear and read it in a story as a side line makes it all the more real to me.
