Nothing Like You and I (Chapter 3): For You To Notice
Dana had lain awake for hours now. She and Lara had returned to her condo when the last patrons of Milk, a group of whom they were included, were ushered out the door. Dana had had a lot to drink so the red head drove her back to her condo. In her drunken stupor, she still felt so alone and desolate, and not wanting to be she asked her girlfriend to stay the night. But when Lara began kissing and groping her, Dana insisted she was too tired and drunk for *****. Could you just hold me, please? Dana had whispered as she drifted off into a drunken, listless sleep. It was almost day break now as the tennis player rolled over to the very edge of the bed, wanting to be alone regretting that she had asked Lara to stay the night. She just wanted a clear head to think about everything, to think about everything she saw last night.
It had been seven months since she gave up on Alice. Thats exactly what it was; Dana had given up. Somewhere in those weeks that Alice was gone, Dana lost faith in the love that they had found with one another. Dana realized it was an uphill battle they were about to face to keep their relationship intact, and she wasnt ready, so she opted for something safe, something smooth. The only real obstacle she and Lara ever faced in their relationship was her shame at being ***** and the guilt of being in the closet. Now that get out and stay out had announced to the world that Dana Fairbanks was *****, she knew a relationship with Lara was a safe and steady bet. Not that she didnt resist Laras overtures in the beginning. After all, she did decline a second dinner invitation the night they ate at the Ethiopian restaurant. But when Alice was away, Dana was too lonely and too weak to keep resisting Laras attention.
Seven Months Ago
Alice had been in Palm Springs for almost a week now. Dana called her every night for the first four days. But on the fourth day Alice had told her that talking on the phone every night was counterproductive to their break. Dana knew Alice was right but Dana found herself feeling lonelier than she had in a long time. She missed her lover and most of all her best friend. With Shane and Carmen as a happy couple, Bette and Tina occupied with Angelica and Jenny being gone, physically and not just her usual mental writer way, Dana found her mornings unbearably quiet and her evenings desolate. Brooding alone over a cup of coffee was how Lara found her that day, exactly a week after Alice left.

great update – im not liking that i actually enjoy hellacious…whew – get i better get used to it. love your style.
Great writing. Definitely helping to ease the spoiler blues!
It’s nice to see how you’ve written Helena and her actual genuine kindness in caring for Alice after the break-up with Dana. I was a fan of Dana and Lara when they were together, as well as a fan of Dana and Alice, so I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out which pairing seems more appropriate for themselves as well as each other; but your using Helena (as hinted at by the spoilers) as someone to be there for Alice is not just believable, it’s wonderfully written. Great job, and please post more as soon as you can!
And now that I’ve rambled on, I’ll be ending this…. now. :)
im enjoying this one very much, can’t wait for the next post

I love your stories. Specially Helena’s and Alice’s parts. Please post as soon as you can!
Good stuff! I’m glad that you showed a little more of Dana’s perspective, it is always nice to get that in fan fics, especially because sometimes I think she is one of the harder charcters to write. Love the way you are writing Helena as well, you have a great grasp on these characters as well as the more subtle intimate gestures. Keep up the good work!
loving your story

It is so nice to read a story about a nice Helena… I hope it is a perm. thing.
