Nothing Like You and I (Chapter 3): For You To Notice

Dont be silly, if it were merited, it wouldnt be kindness. Helena teased gently, still feeling the waters around the blondes fragile emotions. She knew from her brief time with Tina that Alice was the one in the group with the sharpest quips, but she also knew the Alice that she had grown a friendship with these past several weeks was far from being that woman Tina had spoken about. Anyway, you must be starving, I know that I am, I can pick up some take out while you get cleaned up? Besides, Ive got a proposition for you that Id like to talk about over dinner.

Alice sat up, realizing just how hungry she was, it had been awhile since she put anything solid in her stomach. She stood up, feeling a little light headed as she slowly walked into the bathroom adjoining her bedroom. Why dont you call in something while I clean up, and Ill go pick it up with you. Some fresh air might be do me some good. Besides, youve piqued my curiosity. Then more playfully, the blonde quipped, Ive never been propositioned before.

Helena blushed and was completely at a lost for words at the last comment. Nevertheless, she smiled proudly at Alice, even though the blonde wasnt in the room to receive the happy grin. The brunette was pleasantly surprised at Alices sudden proactive steps toward living again. She felt a swelling pride for playing a small part in that somehow. Alice emerged, cleaned up with light makeup and cute knitted hat on her unwashed hair as Helena was still punching in the numbers for a local noodle place. The drive out there was pleasant, the air was cool for L.A., even for late autumn. They had the top down on her convertible, Helenas hair blowing wildly while Alices remained intact thanks to her knitted hat.

They entered the restaurant, still laughing from some funny remark Alice was making about what they heard on the radio. But just as suddenly as Alices spirit was lifted, it was gone again in an instant as she spotted the back of a red head at a corner table. The seat across from her looked recently vacated, wine half drunk from the glass with pink lipstick print still on it. Helena instinctively wrapped her right hand around Alices arm in a protective gesture, squeezing it reassuringly as she grabbed Alices left hand with her own, feeling the blonde tense up. She leaned in and whispered softly in Alices ear, Shhhh. Its going to be all right. Dont panic sweetie.

In that moment, Dana walked back to her seat, just as she was pulling her chair out she spotted Alice at the hostess stand with Helena beside her, touching her in an intimate gesture. Dana felt a sudden surge of panic, remembering their last encounter with Alice drunk and angry. Panic was soon replaced by a tinge of jealousy at Helenas physical proximity and contact with Alice.

Lara, noticing the blood draining from Danas face, turned around in time to catch Helena walking out the door with take out in one hand and Alices hand in the other as she pulled the blonde out with her.

    1. It’s nice to see how you’ve written Helena and her actual genuine kindness in caring for Alice after the break-up with Dana. I was a fan of Dana and Lara when they were together, as well as a fan of Dana and Alice, so I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out which pairing seems more appropriate for themselves as well as each other; but your using Helena (as hinted at by the spoilers) as someone to be there for Alice is not just believable, it’s wonderfully written. Great job, and please post more as soon as you can!

And now that I’ve rambled on, I’ll be ending this…. now. :)

    2. Good stuff! I’m glad that you showed a little more of Dana’s perspective, it is always nice to get that in fan fics, especially because sometimes I think she is one of the harder charcters to write. Love the way you are writing Helena as well, you have a great grasp on these characters as well as the more subtle intimate gestures. Keep up the good work!

    3. gets better and better with every post. i also like this helena, she’s much more human than in TLW and almost amiable. and i like your style, hopping between past and present.
