Nothing Like You and I (Chapter 3): For You To Notice

Now here she was standing in front of the honey colored wooden with the gold plated number 4, the key Tina reluctantly handed over clasped tightly in her hand. Alice hadnt showed up for class, which wasnt in itself alarming, however, Alice wasnt answering her phone or returning any of the numerous messages Helena had left. Helena initially thought Alice just needed some space, but when she turned on KCRW on Friday afternoon in hopes of hearing The Chart – the blondes broadcast that was becoming ever more popular in both L.A. and amongst the podcasts crowd nationwide, she was surprised to hear the announcement that they were running a rerun of The Chart. And when the heiress called LA Magazine that morning, Alan, the reporters boss informed Helena that Miss Pietzecki was not currently employed there – that she had been given, in a tone that suggested it was likely forced upon the reporter, indefinite time off to sort out personal issues and had not been in the office in almost a week.

Helena stood there for a moment, knocking gently on the door. She looked around, and reluctantly pressed her ear to the door, listening for any signs of life. Finally, after another reluctant beat, she placed the key inside the lock and turned the doorknob. Helena had never been inside Alices apartment before. Shed dropped her off or picked her up on several occasions up to that point in their recent outings together in the last few weeks. Helena stood there for a moment taking in the tasteful, intellectual, and eclectic way Alices apartment was decorated. Although it was only late afternoon, Helena had a hard time making out the details of the living room as her eyes adjusted to the darkness of the space because Alices drapes were drawn shut. Helena walked over and opened them, calling out Alices name.

Alice, its me Helena, are you here darling? Helena called out. She hesitantly walked out of the living room and back through the hall she had just come out of. She stood there facing the door across the hall from the entrance and knocked softly. The dark haired woman heard something imperceptible coming from the other side. Um, Alice, Im going to come in now. With that she walked into the small barely lit bedroom. Walking towards the orange creamsicle colored linen clad bed in the middle of the room, where she could make out the tiny frame of the reporter, Helena explained her presence, concern lacing her every words, I got worried when I didnt hear you on KCRW, so when you didnt show up for class, I phoned the magazine

    1. It’s nice to see how you’ve written Helena and her actual genuine kindness in caring for Alice after the break-up with Dana. I was a fan of Dana and Lara when they were together, as well as a fan of Dana and Alice, so I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out which pairing seems more appropriate for themselves as well as each other; but your using Helena (as hinted at by the spoilers) as someone to be there for Alice is not just believable, it’s wonderfully written. Great job, and please post more as soon as you can!

And now that I’ve rambled on, I’ll be ending this…. now. :)

    2. Good stuff! I’m glad that you showed a little more of Dana’s perspective, it is always nice to get that in fan fics, especially because sometimes I think she is one of the harder charcters to write. Love the way you are writing Helena as well, you have a great grasp on these characters as well as the more subtle intimate gestures. Keep up the good work!

    3. gets better and better with every post. i also like this helena, she’s much more human than in TLW and almost amiable. and i like your style, hopping between past and present.
