Nothing Like You and I (Chapter 3): For You To Notice

Helena had been awake for much longer than Alice realized. She only pretended to sleep in order to give Alice the space that she obviously needed to be lost in her thoughts. Every now and again, Helena would peak at the blondes features, softened by the morning light that shone through the gossamer fabric of Alices drapes. Only when Alice closed her eyes, an indication to Helena that the blonde was done wrestling with her emotions, did the brunette dare to let Alice know she was awake. As she was greeted with a hand gently caressing her face and a morning kiss so sweet that it threatened to steal Helenas heart, she gazed into the depths of those sad brown eyes and knew her heart was already gone.

    Five Months Ago

The heiress never intended to fall for Alice. When she met the blonde for the first time, Alice was dancing around in Tinas apartment playing air guitar, Helena was unimpressed, but also admittedly, she was concerned that this playful and cute blonde was her rival for Tinas affection. Amazing how quickly things change. No one would have guessed, least of all Helena, that several months later she would be asking Tina for the spare key to Alices apartment when the reporter failed to show up for their appointed weekly Yoga class, which they had been attending together for over a month now.

Helena wasnt all that surprised since last weeks class ended so badly. The brunette grimaced at the recollection of Alice driving them after class in her adorable blue Mini when she spotted Danas Subaru a few cars ahead of them on the road. Alice, probably because of all of her medication, decided it was the appropriate moment to give Dana the cardboard cutout that was almost becoming a permanent fixture in the backseat of the reporters car. Despite several awkward and sometimes heated encounters the two have had over the last few weeks, Alice still hadnt managed get rid of the constant reminder of Dana in the backseat of her mini, although other reminders of Dana had been completely purged from her apartment and office. After several turns, the tennis players driving became more erratic and aggressive. Finally, the blonde slammed on her brakes at a light the Subaru ran through in her great escape. Helena watched on with sympathy and heartache as Alice started to cry again, her shoulders shuddering in time with her sobs, which rang out intermittently with her self-deprecation. What the ***** am I doing? She already made it clear she doesnt want to see me the last time I spoke to her and Lara. Helena winced at the memory of Alice, drunk and becoming louder and more belligerent toward the pair when they ran into the couple at Milk. As Alice continued crying, the heiress insisted they pull over at the next intersection. She held the broken Alice in her arms until there were no tears left to shed. Helena insisted on getting in the drivers seat and taking Alice home.

    1. It’s nice to see how you’ve written Helena and her actual genuine kindness in caring for Alice after the break-up with Dana. I was a fan of Dana and Lara when they were together, as well as a fan of Dana and Alice, so I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out which pairing seems more appropriate for themselves as well as each other; but your using Helena (as hinted at by the spoilers) as someone to be there for Alice is not just believable, it’s wonderfully written. Great job, and please post more as soon as you can!

And now that I’ve rambled on, I’ll be ending this…. now. :)

    2. Good stuff! I’m glad that you showed a little more of Dana’s perspective, it is always nice to get that in fan fics, especially because sometimes I think she is one of the harder charcters to write. Love the way you are writing Helena as well, you have a great grasp on these characters as well as the more subtle intimate gestures. Keep up the good work!

    3. gets better and better with every post. i also like this helena, she’s much more human than in TLW and almost amiable. and i like your style, hopping between past and present.
