Late Afternoon Visit (Time of Day 23)

Bette could feel the lips trace the back of her neck, stopping to suck in an earlobe. A hand resting lightly upon her side.

‘What a way to wake up,’ she thought.

Eyes closed, she took the hand and moved it to her breast. She rolled onto her back, taking her time with a languid stretch.

She opened her eyes and pushed herself away, pulling a sheet around herself to cover up. “Jodi!”

“Who did you think I was?”

Bette’s thoughts had been solidly on Tina, and found, for a moment, the thought that Tina might take such initiative erotic. “I wasn’t awake.”

“Who were you dreaming of, Bette?”

“No one.” Bette rubbed her eyes and got up off the bed, heading to the dresser to find some comfortable clothes to pull on, a tank top and a pair of yoga pants. “What are you doing here?”

    “I didn’t like your explanation.”

    “What?”

“One week, you’re moving mountains to be with me. The next week, we’re through.”

Running her fingers through her hair, Bette pulled the unruly curls back into a ponytail. “I told you, I realized we wouldn’t work.”

Bette took a moment to consider the woman seated in front of her. “How did you get in?”

    “You gave me keys, remember?”

One night, before the dinner party, Bette had given Jodi a set of keys to use ‘at her discretion.’ Dammit. “Why did you come here?”

“Same reason you came to New York. I thought we had a chance.” Jodi moved closer to Bette. “I want that chance.”

Maneuvering around, Bette started backing out of the bedroom, keeping her face towards Jodi so that Jodi would see what she was saying. “I don’t think there is a chance.”

    “Who is it, Bette.”

“Who?” Bette tried to keep her expression neutral.

“The woman you left me for.”

    “I’m not seeing anyone.”

“Did you break up because I won’t have children with you?”

    “What?

Jodi moved closer to Bette, which allowed Bette to exit towards the living room. “Since when are we discussing children?”

    “Aren’t children important to you?”

“My daughter is important to me.”

    1. Glad to see that you put in the missing puzzle piece. Jodi’s in town, do I sense that Tina will be getting a visit or Jodi will happen by The Planet? Will we get a much deserved cat fight over Bette? Thanks for posting so fast.

    2. Still think Bette acted like a complete dick to Tina. However, I guess this makes Jodi pretty much a massively uncool manipulator. Bette better buck up, act like an adult, and put aside her BS even if she doesn’t want to get with Tina at this point.. she should apologize so they can be cool for Angelica. You know, be an “adult.” Still reading. I guess I must like a story if I actually get pissed at characters in a fanfic. PPS.

    3. Funny I’d been guessing Henry somehow – anyway hate this monkey wrench – the course of true love never did run smooth for these two. Thanks for filling in the gap Pseud although I’d rather have skipped another misunderstanding actually.

    4. This only made me like Jodi less than before (as you know like isn’t the word) and Bette no better. The stupid-ass games they play with each other and themselves. If Bette really is this unsure and so easily disturbed, she really shouldn’t be with ANYBODY.

    5. i noticed that your chapters go in “zigzag” pattern and not in order, remind me of a book i read, where all the chapters were posted out of order but those who wanted to follow, could read it either way…anyway, how did jodi know what tina was talking about? she wasn’t even close to them…well, i hope B&T will solve this little misunderstanding soon

    6. So… It was Jodi. I guess that’s what made Bette so sure. I guess that explains part of why Bette was so angry too, she was all het up from not getting any and the Scotch couldn’t have helped matters. It doesn’t explain why Bette is so scared though, why she denied Tina three times before the fiery bird started crowing, or why she was *such* a berk when Tina came to see her. Maybe once they both calm down they can try to talk, but Tina’s kiss goodbye to Bette all seemed a bit Michael and Fredo. Guess I’ll have to wait and see. Post soon, pseud.

    7. Well, I still think that Bette is an ass. Jodi or no Jodi, Paige, even Alice the Mouth, Bette needs to be able to talk to Tina, regardless of the situation. These two act like teenagers. And maybe because I accept the fact that Bette is an Ass, I expect that Tina will be the grown up and not allow Bette to get away with that crap! Thanks for the lost chapter. I vote for Jodi to get her ass on a plane back to NY…she’s a pot stirrer

    8. Bette is acting like a child. This Bette doesn’t deserve to be with anyone. I hope Tina lets her stew and makes her let someone else pick up and return Angelica. Please post soon. Love this story. I loathe Jodi even more if thats even possible.
