A World Apart – (Chapter: 8- Chasing the Predator)

“Well kid,” Luke said to Spencer after she was all wired, and about to go to the house. “Looks like your all set, now kick some ass!” With that, Spencer drove around the corner and walked to the house. She was greeted by Paula, who now looked as old as a grandma, and they both went inside.

    Spencer’s POV

As I walked inside I noticed a few changes to my old house. At first it seemed almost the exact same, but then we walked further in. The kitchen had been redone, and the dining room was now an off-white instead of the old pure white that it used to be. I could see someone had set the table with forks on the left, and the works. There was ham being served with mashed potatoes and gravy. As I walked into the dining room Paula directed me towards a chair. When I came around the corner I could see Ben. He had really let himself go. We was now quite heavy-set, but I wouldn’t quite call him fat. You could smell the beer emanating off of hid shirt, which was heavily stained. The five O’clock shadow on his chin was apparent as well. About the only thing that he hadn’t let of were is muscles. You could see them through his white shirt. He was the spitting image of the stereotypical hobo. “Here sweetie,” Paula said, directing my towards a chair. When I did see how awful Ben smelt up close I couldn’t help but let out a small gasp.

“What’s the matter ya little bitch? Aren’t I handsome anymore?” great, hardly 5 minutes into it, and he was already getting rowdy. He was also slurring his words, which made him all the more dangerous. I could tell I wasn’t going to get out of here painlessly. “I asked you a question.” It was now obvious how drunk he was.

“I… ugh… you look fine to me.” It was a lie. He was about the ugliest creature I’ve ever had to look at.

“Liar!” he screamed and knocked me to the floor. Oh great this wasn’t good. He picked me up again by my shirt and backhanded me across the face. As he let go of me, I fell to the floor with a thud. Then I heard the front door break off of it’s hinges. Thank god, the police had gotten enough evidence to put Ben away for a long time, and decided it had been time to come in. “What is this?” Ben screamed and grabbed me by my neck, holding me close to himself almost like a… A SHEILD! That’s when I noticed he had a gun out and it was pointed at my head! I was a hostage!

“Sir, put the gun down and come to your senses.” The cop closest to me began negotiating with him.

“Don’t you think I’ve thought this over already, as soon as I drop her I’ll get-” THUD! I was confused. As I spun around I saw my mom with a pan in her hand. She had hit him on the head with it. Too bad she wasn’t very strong, because he still had the gun, and was conscious. I knew I didn’t have long to think, so I ran out the door as fast as I could towards the under cover cops waiting outside. I could hear bullets flying behind me as I ran. I approached someone who looked like he was a cop.

“Hey, get in the car,” he called to me, “I’m a cop, I’ll help you. Stay low. I got in the back of the unmarked cop car and he drove away.

“Ugh, you don’t really need to drive this far away.” I stated after a few minutes of driving. He didn’t respond. All he did was lock the doors and drive faster. This man wasn’t a cop, I was being abducted!

Meanwhile back at the house, Ashley’s POV

After the shooting had stopped I ran inside to see the results. Ben laid dead, A gunshot wound in his torso. Also, another cop was dead. He suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. I recognized him as the cop who tried to negotiate with Ben. Someone I didn’t see was Spencer. She couldn’t be far. I then told Luke she was missing, and he made everyone tear the whole street block apart. After 15 minutes of searching, nothing was found.

“All units, missing person reported.” he said into the microphone in the squad car. “Blond hair, blue eyes, name: Spencer Carlin, about 5’7…” he continued to list off Spencer’s traits. this was not good. Too much had happened recently, I can’t take this much suspense.

After a few minutes of my sobbing, Luke came over and tried to comfort me. “I don’t care if it takes years and every cop in the state. We will find her. I promise.”

    3. hey it;s the writer here. tell me if you think I should stay writing stories and events like these, or should I spend more time focusing on the two girls. And if you think the second choice is better, I suck at writing about that stuff, so i’d need ideas.
