Instead, I followed my comment with a wink and a cheeky once-over of my competition which relaxed the tension that had formed as I had spoken.

I just raised my eyebrow as if to say ‘What? I’m cool’ but her smirk showed that she’d read me and it relaxed me. It gave me a warm feeling in my stomach knowing that someone cared to know me that well and cared to re-assure me.

‘Aw shit!’ Austin exclaimed, then gave a burst of laughter. Kyla was next to giggle and then Madison and Maggie joined in.

‘Um, well last time we met I was in my cheerleading outfit,’ Spencer explained and her friends were still giggling. I was missing something here.

‘In a lesbian coffee shop? Right Spencer?’ Austin smirked as she spoke to her friend.

I stared open-mouthed at my blushing girlfriend.

‘Ummmm, ya that would be the one,’ she was uncomfortable for a second then the cockiness I had come to love kicked back in, she gave an exaggerated sigh and shook her head. ‘Bitches were drooling in their coffee.’ The whole group laughed at that and Meg chose that point to wander over with Beth.
