    Complexities – (Chapter: 1)

I start off with a slow jog. Pacing not only myself but Jak as well. Taking in my surroundings to make sure I know how to get back. As my feet pound into the street and sweat drips off of my forehead I attempt to zone out. Trying not to think, just enjoy the burn in my lungs. I don’t really know where a park is exactly… my plan was just to run until I found one.
This place is a lot different from where I used to live. The weather clearly… It’s February and it’s burning up outside. Where I come from there would still be at least 5 inches of snow. AT LEAST. It seemed more peaceful in Burlington. But I heard Canada in general is a better place then US. Then again it could just be my country finding too much pride in itself. I take a few turns here and there following whichever way Jak felt like going. Eventually, we came across an open field with about a foot ball field length between me and a house.

I chuck the tennis ball and watch Jak dart after it and plop it back in my hands. The simplest game ever thought of…yet so entertaining. I smile as I see Jak start running back to me. Face filled with excitement. I jolt after her, full on sprint. She drops the ball and picks up speed and I push my legs to go faster as well. Space quickly dissolving between us and my excitement turns to shock. I look at her feet and see mud everywhere…. great. She leaps into my arms and mud goes everywhere.

"Oh… Jak… thanks babe. I reaaaallly appreciate that." She licks my face and I pat her head. I pick up the ball… unable to be mad at her and chuck it one more time without realizing that I was in the middle of the field. The ball flies right into someone’s yard and I heard a loud crash… or splash.

    SHIT.

Jak just keeps running around the house to the front, not realizing it disappeared in the lawn. I swear sometimes she is blonde.

I take off running, trying to catch up to her but when I reach the street; she is no where in sight.
"JAK?!" I yell. Knowing that she would come to me.
She’s just a good dog like that.
But when no sign of her appears I begin to worry.
What if someone has taken her?
Some realized her undeniable cuteness and abducted her in their big white unmarked van. The kind that has stickers pasted on the bumper and tinted windows.
    My panic explodes.
