    Chapter Eleven: What Are You Afraid Of?

    “Well, I had a good time tonight…” Spencer spoke politely as she prepared to exit the dark Mercedes Benz. She did enjoy the dinner part, the other couple had been quite pleasant and the food was delicious. Some parts had been more awkward than others, but overall it hadn’t been all that bad.

    “You did?” The brunette responded, brow lifting a bit in surprise. She’d been pretty positive that Spencer had been miserable and hating her the entire time while hiding it with a sunny demeanor.

    “Other than the weird spots, yeah.” She said with a little smile, hand tugging the handle as she slowly pushed the door open. The exchange was still rather stiff between them, and the small kiss they had shared was still pulsating in the back of their minds. Hell, Spencer hadn’t kissed another girl besides Sarah in over 2 years. …And Ashley’s lips had been so much softer.

    “Good. I’m glad to hear that.” She sounded genuine and even gave a little nod for effect, the edges of her lips pulling back to reveal that award winning smile.

    Spencer smiled a response, meeting those brown eyes for an excruciating moment before she forced her legs to carry her out of the car, “I’ll see you around.” She spoke, giving a little wave before she shut the door and climbed the steps to her house. Ashley watched from the curb, politely waiting for Spencer to get inside before she drove away. As the blonde slipped into the house, she rested her forehead against the driving wheel and took a moment to gather her thoughts. She was still completely out of it, and her mind swum with thoughts and ideas. It was overwhelming to say the least.

    As Spencer walked through the door she was greeted with the angry face of Glen stalking from the living room, looking quite upset, “God damn it Spencer, you had me worried sick!” He spoke, arms crossing over his chest, “You can’t just keep running off like this. Your still grieving, you can’t be out on your own.”

    Spencer knew he was being like this for all the right reasons, but she was fed up with his overbearing behavior, “Back off Glen! I’m 27, if I want to go out, I’ll go out!” She shouted, hand slamming the door shut loudly behind her.

    1. Somehow I missed the last chapter… But now that I’m all caught up I must say this one is really starting to heat up. The whole pretending to be lovers thing and kissing to ‘show’ the other couple what a kiss was… And now this! I’m really hoping Spencer just… goes with it. Even though she’s still dealing with Sarah’s death which is completely understandable. And how awkward must it be for Ashley to be in Spencer’s home knowing the things that happened there? Your writing is great, keep it up, and pms!

    2. this story plays with your heart, i feel for Glen cuz he had to walk in on his sister slowly dieing and now just wants to protect her only he doesn’t realize he’s smothering her which could lead to the same scene again and the whole Ashley/Spencer relationship and how it is developing is one of the best i’ve read…pms

You have created a unique and compelling story that stretches the imagination beyond what most people are comfortable with. The story begins with a tragic death of a lover, then quickly reveals the shocking truth of unfaithfulness, and if that weren’t enough the brokenhearted and devastated lover that had been left behind is slowly and painstakingly falling for the woman that quite literally stole her dead lover’s heart. That is one of the most interesting and intriguing plots I have read in a long time. Brilliant! PMS
