Los Angeles Breeds Forbidden Love – (Chapter: Two- Right As Rain)

“My apologies and sincere condolences.” Her tone didn’t sound all that sincere. It sounded more automatic. About as considerate and conscious as the woman inside his GPS.

“When is the doctor going to be here?” Glen pressed anxiously, unable to sit so he instead settled for pacing.

“Shortly.” The woman was curt, and with a small nod she dismissed herself from the room. Glen stared with some interest at the anatomical diagrams, his brain desperate for a distraction. He was just studying the intricacies of the pregnant female’s belly when he heard the door open and shut behind him. Turning around quickly, Glen eyed the male doctor, trying to read his passive expression.

“Good Afternoon Mr. Carlin.” Greeted the doctor, not looking up from his sheets. His little name tag read Dr. Thomas Reed.

“Not really.” Glen spoke, feeling the greeting was a bit ridiculous considering the situation. He wished his parents were here, people who he could count on to be strong for him. Like his father.

“Although your sister is still in critical condition, she has stabled considerably. She is very fortunate you found her.” Dr. Reed began, ignoring his comment as his arms folded across his chest. Glen could tell the man didn’t care all that much for suicidal patients. Kind of defeated the purpose of his life’s work.

“Yeah. Fortunate.” Glen snorted a bit, looking away from the man’s gaze as he stared at a patient being wheeled on past. Spencer was anything but fortunate these days.

“However, she did sever her carotid artery in both of her wrists, and has suffered from severe blood loss…” The man droned on, using enough technical terms and complicated words to make Glen’s eyes cross. He had to resist the pressing urge to slap the doctor across the face and scream for him to cut to the chase.

“So she is going to be okay though?” He spoke finally once the Doctor’s mouth had stopped moving.

Dr. Reed looked unimpressed, as if he was dealing with the biggest idiot on earth, “Assuming her condition continues to stabilize overnight, yes. But, we can make no guarantees.”

“Is she awake yet?” Again Glen was on the receiving end of the imbecile glare, as the doctor impatiently refolded his arms over his chest. In Dr. Reed’s defense, he’d been working for 18 hours without a wink of sleep.

“No Mr. Carlin, and she won’t be for at least another 24 hours. She did a lot of damage to her body, it takes a while for your system to restore those fluids.” The man turned, obviously prepping to leave, “We will call you with any updates, but for now it would probably be best if you just went home and got some rest. I wouldn’t expect any news until morning.”

Glen shifted his weight from foot to foot, feeling itchy and anxious. Rest? Like he would honestly be able to rest in a situation like this. He’d feel much better just parking in the lobby and waiting. But, he was also intimidated by the wide shouldered doctor, and didn’t have the guts to object, “Okay.” He responded, half expecting a dunce cap to be placed on his head.

“We’ll see you in the morning then,” It was probably the friendliest thing the man had said all night, and Glen relaxed considerably as he left the room. It was also a huge relief knowing Spencer was going to be fine. Well other than the depression, suicidal thoughts, mental scarring and the dead, cheating fiancé. Other than that she’d be as right as rain.

    1. aww man, I hate the fact that Spencer tried to kill herself, but very thankful that Glen was there to save her life. I really do love this story and the way you tell it is so heartfelt and honest. Well done! PMS
