The second verse punched a hole in Madison’s heart. Jorey saw Madison at the foot of the stage but she didn’t dare look her in the eyes. She really was saying goodbye and nothing was going to stop her from doing so. She just kept singing. Punching every note out until her heart ached with meaning.

Jorey looked at Madison this time. Powerfully singing the bridge into the final chorus. Ashley and the rest of the band brought the song to life. Grey was rocking. Madison was in tears. Jorey was almost in tears as well.

Madison ran out of Grey. She ran to her car and laid her head on her steering wheel crying. She wanted Jorey to stay. She needed her to stay. Why did she have to be so stubborn? Why couldn’t she just walk in there and tell Jorey.

Jorey ran off the stage, grabbed her things and left. It was already ten o’clock and she had to get to the airport to make her flight. She didn’t say goodbye to Spencer or Ashley, it would be too hard. She just grabbed her coat and bag and she ran. Nothing mattered anymore. Everything was said and done.

Madison didn’t see her run out of Grey. She got out of her car and went back in to look for Jorey. But she didn’t see her. She found Spencer, “Where’s Jorey?”

“She ran out of here Madison. Where do you think she went? She’s getting on a flight in an hour.”

“She’s leaving TONIGHT?!” Madison’s eyes were still filled with tears.

“She must’ve left that part out huh? She’s leaving. She’s on her way to the airport right now.”

“But-“

“Instead of standing here why don’t you try and run after her. Maybe you’ll actually get her to stay.”

Madison looked down at the car keys that she was holding her right hand, “You’re right.” Madison turned and ran out of Grey. She got in her car and drove as fast as she could. After she was stopped at a seatbelt check she figured that she’d be late. She looked at the clock on her stereo, it was 10:57. She had to run through the airport.

Jorey sat in the airport. She was waiting to go through security screening when she heard someone calling her name from behind her. It was Madison.

“Jorey! Please! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Don’t go back! I love you!”

Jorey was walking through the metal detector, “I love you too Madison. But it’s too late. I have to go. It’s for the best.”

“Jorey! Please god don’t go! I was wrong! I should’ve forgiven you! Please just stay!” Madison was being held back by security.

Jorey started crying, “I love you Madison. I always will. And if it’s meant to be then I’m sure we’ll run into one another somewhere down the line. But I have to go back.” Jorey kissed her hand, walked to the window separating them and placed it on the glass, “Goodbye Madison.”

Madison kissed her hand and placed it on Jorey’s, the glass separating them. “Goodbye” Tears were flooding down her face. She watched Jorey walk away. She was crying uncontrollably. Madison broke down. Jorey was gone. She was really gone
