My smile falters with you – (Chapter: The stars and moon watched from above)
“I was easily influenced.” She smirked at him. “But seriously tonight has been the best.” She looked around the table and her eyes rested on Sophia for a moment the girl had been uncharacteristically quiet this evening. And something sank in her stomach, she had noticed the way her and Spencer were. She knew it wasn’t hard to noticed the way she looked at Spencer anyone with eyes could see it. But what was causing this feeling in her stomach was that fact she knew she had hurt Sophia. Evening stealing a glance at the blonde made her feel horrible and yet gave her such a rush of joy. “Um, I’m suddenly really tired.” She said being here in-between the girls was torture. Sophia looked at her with a frown.
“You wanna go?” she asked her girlfriend.
“I mean if you wanna stay will you finish your drink we can.”
“No it’s fine.” Sophia was desperate for some alone time with Ashley, just to told her hand or maybe even feel her lips. “I’ll see you two at school tomorrow.” And walked off a little and waited for Ash to catch up.
“Thanks for tonight. Later.” Her eyes found Spencer as always and they gave each other a silent goodbye.
In the car they were silent, and you could cut the atmosphere with a knife. There was so much that needed to be said but neither one wanted to start the subject, because it was only going to end in pain. At least they pulled up to Ashley’s house and they sat in the car quiet for a moment.
“Sophia…” Ash started not sure where the sentence was going.
“Ashley if you are planning to break my heart don’t do it slow.” Sophia asked with a sad smile, she knew what was coming and prepared to brace herself.
“What?” She was slightly taken back by the girls intuition.
“I know you love her, and I thought eventually you could love me, but you won’t or rather you can’t.” Her eyes were beginning to sting with tears. “I heard you the other week tell Spencer you love her.” And that’s when the teardrops started to fall.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Ashley hated hurting her friend and was shocked that Sophia had stuck around so long.
