My smile falters with you – (Chapter: The stars and moon watched from above)

“Remember last week when I was helping my mum and Aiden was stuck in traffic?” She nodded. “We tried to fix you up.”

“Why would you do that?” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Because Ash as much as I want you, I know you belong with Spencer, and I saw that tonight.”

“I’m so sorry.” Ashley put her hand on the girls leg and rubbed her thigh gentle. “I never wanted to hurt you.”

“But yet I’m hurt all the same.” She didn’t want Ashley to feel bad but she wanted the girl to understand her hurt, she reached up and touched Ashley’s cheek. “I will always be happy I had you in my life, even if it was for a short while.”

“You can still be friends though right.” She had known this was going to be hard but this was painful.

“I don’t know, maybe at some point.” It was the best answer she could muster, she wasn’t sure she could see Ashley everyday and only be a friend to her.

“I understand.” Her voice cracked but she swallowed back any tears that might fall. “I guess you want this back.” Ashley went to her bangle and was about to take it of when Sophia put her hand on her wrist to stop her.

“Please, keep it, like a reminder.” Her voice was soft and her watery eyes met Ashley’s. “I should get going. Got to be up early for school.”

“Yeah, right, so I guess I’ll see you later.” Sophia just smiled and watched Ashley leave her car.

Soph rolled her window down with one last thing to say. “Ash!” the brunette swung around. “Your car keys are in the back pocket of your light blue levi jeans.” Ashley frown. “Aiden will have probably just dropped her off.” With a sad smile the girl started her engine and drove off. Ashley let her words sink in and then rushed inside to get her keys.

Spencer was just about to get unchanged when her phone beeped, she was going to ignore it while she got changed, however she changed her mind.

‘Come outside.’ The text was from Ashley and when she moved to her window she saw Ashley pacing the grass, it looked like she was having a conversation with herself, she smiled as she slipping out of her bedroom. She crept down the hallway trying to miss the sections that creaked, Spencer didn’t wish to wake her parents. After her little mission impossible escape she was outside and the humid night air hit her. She looked over to Ash who seemed to still be talking to herself.
