    Opposites – (Chapter: 22)

Spencer wiped her child out of existence…

Her fingers tightened on the arms of the chair as she stared at Spencer’s sleeping form. Abortion? Without warning, a storm of emotion took over that she had to systematically fight back until her pulse leveled. All attempts to think of the word with an open mind were futile. She couldn’t rationalize it, not when it was Spencer, not when the child was part of her. Could the woman she thought she knew have made that kind of choice? For what purpose? Was it possible that the social life she had sought had been more important than…

As bitterness filled her, Ashley shook her head. She wouldn’t believe it of her. Controlled, yes. There were times Spencer could be infuriatingly controlled. But never calculating. Paula had been talking in riddles, she decided. There’d never been a child.

    There couldn’t have been.

She watched Spencer stir. With a soft murmur Spencer shifted toward the emptiness beside her where Ashley should have been. Ashley sensed the moment Spencer woke. The moonlight gleamed on Spencer’s arm as she lifted it, brushing her fingers at the hair that curled around her face. She placed her hand on Ashley’s pillow, as if testing it for warmth.

Not trusting herself, Ashley said nothing. If only Spencer would go back to sleep until she had resolved her feelings. She could still taste the bitterness at the back of her throat.

But she wouldn’t sleep. Although groggy, Spencer sensed tension in the air. Ashley’s emotions were always volatile enough to be felt tangibly. Something’s wrong, something’s wrong, hammered in her brain.

"Ash?" Spencer called again, and a hint of fear touched the word. Spencer had struggled to a sitting position before she saw her.

The moonlight was enough to allow her to see that Ashley’s eyes were dark and fixed on her face. It was also enough to let her see that they were cold. Her pulse began to race. "Couldn’t you sleep?" she asked, struggling to convince herself it was all her imagination.

    "No."

Spencer laced her fingers together as she swallowed. "You should have woke me."

    "Why?"

    "We—we could have talked."

    1. I’m surprised no one has left a comment for this story. I started reading this story a while ago, on fanfiction.net, and then you stopped posting it. I just got caught up on here and felt I should comment. Man, that was an intense chapter, damn Paula, telling other people’s business. I don’t remember, but didn’t Spencer have a miscarriage or something? Ashley has the right to be mad though, Spencer cheated on her with her ex. Man, I can’t wait for the next batch of updates. Please update soon.
