I just nodded.  I was kind of confused.  How long exactly had they know us and yet only mentioned one of us to the other in passing?

“Well I will let you get back inside sweetie.” Sarah said turning back to the patio gate.

“Wait, Sarah!  How long have you and grandma known that Spencer and I might ‘get along’?”  I asked before she left.

“Oh for a while I guess.” She replied. “We talked about it a lot when we were coming to see you in rehab.  We thought because of some of the hardships you girls shared that you might be able to understand certain things about each other that nobody else could.”

She must have seen my mind working because she answered my question before I could even ask it.

“It’s not our place to meddle, Ashley.”  She said gently.  “If you and Spencer were meant to know one another then it would happen.  It appears that things have started to fall into place now, yes?”

I nodded and started to ask her another question when the phone in my bag rang.  I pulled it out and looked it….Spencer?

“Spencer?” I answered slightly confused as to why she would be calling me outside of her own house.

“Hey Ashley.”  Her voice sounded quite and hurt. “So…uh are you ok?  I mean I just was kind of wondering why you left this morning.  Did I say something wrong?  I was just under the impression…I guess…well that you would be here this morning and I wa…..”

“Spence…calm down.  Open your front door please” I replied. 

“Right now?  I don’t have a shirt on.  Besides I would really like you to tell me why you left this morn….”  Damn I thought.  No shirt on….what the hell am I standing out here for?

“Spence, please just open the door, and I would suggest definitely putting a shirt on before you do.” I said smothering a laugh.  I looked over to see Sarah shake her head slightly with amusement as she headed back into the patio.

Spencer’s studio door opened and she came out still holding her phone to her ear.  The look on her face made my heart ache.  She looked so sad and upset.  She really had though I had left. She was still looking forward and didn’t see me.  I closed my phone.
