    Ashley apologizes and confesses something very important.

    Principal Sanders: Make it quick Ms. Davies.

    Ashley: Thank you.

    Madison: But-, But she-

    Principal Sanders: Madison go sit down, you’re giving me a headache.

    Principal Sanders escorts Madison off the gym floor and over to the other cheerleaders.

    Oh my God I can’t believe I’m actually doing this. I always hated making speeches, and now I’m going to give one in front of 700 people. Oh shit, I think I’m going to vomit. I start having second thoughts and then I spot Spencer’s face in the crowd, and somehow everyone else fades away. This is it, I have to do this, for her.

    Everyone in the stands starts to quiet down when they see Ashley down on the floor.

    Ashley: Umm, I know you’re all wondering why I’m down here instead of Madison.

    Guy in the crowd: (yells) Madison sucks!!

    Everyone begins to laugh.

    Ashley: I’m not down here to talk about tomorrow’s basketball game or anything like that. I’m here to apologize. You see most of you know me as bit- umm witch of this high school. A lot of you know me because I’ve treated you like crap these past few years and never stopped to say I’m sorry. So I’m sorry to those of you who I’ve looked down upon and never gotten to know, because I’m sure you’re all great people. I know this is no excuse but I always felt like my reputation was the most important thing in the world to me. If I didn’t have that I had nothing.

    Ashley stops to take a breath and the crowd is still adamantly watching her. While Ashley keeps her eyes on Spencer.

    Ashley: There’s another very important reason why I’m here making this speech. I have another apology to make, and that’s to Spencer Carlin. A lot of you probably don’t know her because she just moved here not too long ago. Well let me tell you all about Spencer Carlin. In the short time that I’ve known her she has shown me just how good and kind hearted people can be. Spencer Carlin is the most amazing, honest, sincere person I have ever met. Spencer I’m am so sorry for hurting you. When I first met you, I’ll admit I didn’t have the best of intentions. But after spending time with you my intentions quickly changed, and without even realizing it, I fell in love with you. I love you Spencer Carlin, I love you so much, and if you just give me another chance I’ll show you the kind of love you deserve.

    When I my speech ends the crowd does something I was not expecting. They start to applaud. Some people even start to stand, and within seconds the whole gym in on their feet clapping for me. I look through crowd trying to find Spencer, but I can’t see her with everyone else standing. Principal Sanders and the other faculty try to calm everyone down and people begin to sit. I look up to where Spencer was sitting and hope to see her smiling down at me. Instead I feel my stomach drop. She’s gone.
