    The tickling caress of breath woke her. Spencer’s eyes fluttered briefly threatening to open until the sound of her wife’s whispered words reached her ears. “I want everything that touches you to be soft and warm. I already know you’re beautiful. I’m already proud of you. I never want you to wonder if I love you. I promise to tell you every day how special you are to me.” Spencer felt Ashley’s lips gently press against her, “I don’t know…what kind of mother I can be, but I promise you, I’ll work as hard as I can to give you everything you need. I promise…I’ll never leave you alone.”

    Even from a distance the room was warm, full of laughter and light. The two women stopped, leaning against each other. Ashley gasped, swallowing a sob. Bringing her hand to her mouth, she barley managed to keep another in as she watched her family. Her golden haired nephew ran excitedly from person to person, still giggling loudly. “They’ll need you to be strong now, Ash. Can you be strong for them…for Spencer?” Her face was pulled up, forcing her to stare into the nurse’s kind eyes, “She’s so strong Ash, she can make it through this…”  Taking a deep breath, she let go of Sara’s hand. Pulling away from the other woman’s warmth, Ashley wiped the tears from her eyes. In front of her, a small cross gleamed under the fluorescent lights. She turned tearing her eyes away from Sara’s pendent, steeling herself to walk across the hallway.

     

    The room quieted as she neared, everyone’s expectant faces turned towards her. She watched silently as their expressions changed, becoming anxious. Paula shot from her chair running to the smaller brunette. Ashley stared at her mother-in-law, shivering. Her watering blue eyes perfectly matching her wife’s. God…please…take me instead…please… “Ash, what’s wrong? What’s wrong with my baby?!” Ashley pulled Paula to her, letting the woman fall limply against her chest.

    Fingertips lightly grazed her shoulder, silently telling her to move closer. Ashley pushed her body up the bed then pulled her wife into her arms. Full lips captured her still flowing tears as Spencer’s lips lovingly moved down her face. She pulled back, pushing her fingers into her wife’s tangled curls whispering, “Your heart is so beautiful, baby.” Ashley rubbed her face down her wife’s arm, kissing her softly before moving back. Finally allowing her eyes to open, she stared gasping into an ocean of blue. Spencer gently kissed her lips, breathing, “I’ll never leave you alone.”

    1. Past Story Explanation:I’m commenting to hopefully, help those who still do not understand what is going on. In this section we see that Spencer is beginning to get over her depression, but Ashley is scared and very worried about her wife. She decides to take matters into her own hands and tells Clay and Chelsea (without informing Spencer) that they will watch Lei while they go out of town for the weekend. During this time with the baby, Spencer realizes that she still wants to try to have childen…even if she can’t do it exactly the way she wants. In previous chapters, Ashley mentions that she has been undergoing fertility treatments. Basically, she is being given medicine to increase production of her eggs. In one of the past scenes in this section we see that they were able to retrieve several from her body. Spencer is unable to produce eggs on her own, so she has one of Ashley’s implanted in her and well…you get the rest. Hopefully, that clears things up. I started to add the scene where Spencer was implanted, but I couldn’t quite get it right in my head…I guess in retrospect, that might have made things much easier to understand….sorry.Current Story Explanation:Ashley was forcibly removed from the operating room where Spencer is still being worked with. She is not dead. They just needed Ashley to leave so that they could concentrate on her wife. Keep in mind that in the current day story only a few minutes have passed. Ashley and Sara have just left Spencer and are walking back towards the waiting room.

    3. Well I am not sure if you want to hear my thoughts on this but I can’t help but tell you. You truly are an amazing artist and I want to thank you for sharing your talents. I loved the fact that Spence is showing such courage and love to have a child, that is special in it’s own right. I love the fact that Ashley was able to take her out of her depression by showing her that she is there for her and she is so willing to be a mom right beside her. T you are amazing and my feeling for you will never change. Thank you for sharing with all of us your love for writing. You will always be incrediable to me! Thank you!

    21. I totally understand what’s going on. I love it when you update. This is heartbreaking. I’m too sad for words after reading this. The song kinda worries me because I think it foreshadows something I’m terrified to read. If if it does I might just die. So kill me if you want. Anyway loved it update soon.
