Why Superman Could Never Find a Phone Book – (Chapter: 24: “Elementary, My Dear Watson”)
“Don’t freak, I’m not gonna call the cops on yah…but…I might, on one condition.”
Dodger sniffed and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“You show me the drawing.”
Dodger lifted the notepad from his side and handed it to Ash.
Her brown eyes grew black, absolutely stunned by the portrait before her. She stared hard, her eyes beginning to cross on their own, the various lines and shading all blending together until it became one brown blob. Forcing her vision to return to normal, she began to gnaw on her lower lip, mimicking the portrait, as if it knew before she did, how she would react.
“Wow…this is, wow.”
Uncomfortable now over what could be perceived as blatant narcissism, Ash handed the notepad back to Dodger and nervously fidgeted with her belt loop.
Neither person spoke, each shifting about awkwardly, pretending the picture didn’t exist, and that they were just two bored students waiting for some lame lecture to start.
Dodger spoke first.
“So, um, you like it then.”
“Yah, it’s…amazing. I just feel strange, or awkward I should say.”
“Uh, sorry about that. A part if me didn’t want you to see it, cause…I mean, don’t freak, its just a picture. I draw lots of them.”
Ash grabbed his arm and left it there.
“No, not awkward like that. More like…embarrassed.”
Dodger glanced at his shoes and then at Ash’s hand that was still on his shirtsleeve.
“…Oh.”
Ash dropped her hand. “No…Ahh! This is all coming out wrong. What I mean is that, I’m embarrassed, because when I look at your picture…the first thing I think is…is, that I’m beautiful.”
Dodger’s head jerked up looking Ash dead in the eye.
“Well, you are…. I mean, you shouldn’t question that…like, that fact shouldn’t be a surprise to you.”
Ash let out a quick breath of air, staring at the strange red weaving pattern on Dodger’s shirt. The shifting lines reminded her of a patch of ivy that had run rampant and out of control.
Like a swift kick in the head, Ashley’s brain suddenly went into overdrive. Whether it was Dodger’s shirt that had reminded her of ivy, that in turn reminded her of Arizona, which triggered her memory of that diner with the stale cherry pie, followed by the smell of wet soil outside Houston, or her My Little Pony tennis shoes she got for Christmas…it didn’t matter, cause it hit her like a ton of bricks.

I really like your story but I think you should do something about all the jumping around in time in it because sometimes it’s confusing. Maybe you could write in fake dates for each of your posts or something.

To answer questions: No, I didn’t write a story about Shane. Also, I thought about writing in dates for this, and it is still something I may do after I am done. I understand it does get confusing in terms of time placement, however I did want this fic to be somewhat ambiguous; almost as if each post is just a moment in time, and we aren’t always sure exactly when it occurs, but we we learn about the characters within each vignette, and trust me, by the time the finale hits, you will understand everything. However, I haven’t ruled out the dates idea, fionapplefanatic15, so I may go back and do that…don’t be surprised if I implement this concept soon…and thanks for the comments and tips. It means a lot! *wink*
