Why Superman Could Never Find a Phone Book – (Chapter: 24: “Elementary, My Dear Watson”)

She leaned forward, causing Dodger to lean backwards awkwardly, and stared deep into his eyes, noticing the tiny specks of brown that sat near his pupil.

“Holy shit…Dodger.” Making the connection, she smirked.

Dodger stared back, nervously, acknowledging the tone behind her words, and understanding them to be a question, not a statement.

“Where the hell did you get that nickname from…’Clifton?’”

Dodger’s face brightened and he laughed huskily.

“Damn, Ash, took you long enough.”

Ashley backed a bit, her hand on her hip, allowing attitude to bath over her frame. It was as if the uncertainty had faded away, and Ashley’s persona unconsciously shifted into one of confidence and total sass.

“Gee, sense I’ve only met you like four times and that was a few years back, I’d say I did pretty well.”

Dodger grinned manically, and removed his jacket, which he dropped to the floor.

“Admit it, you were blinded by my good looks.”

“Yah, totally. So, what the hell are you doing here? In this lecture?”

Dodger stretched his arms above his head, the sweat stains underneath his arms barely visible against the dark color of his shirt.

“Oh, mom decided that it would be best for me to apply myself, so I skipped a grade last year and now I’m stuck with a bunch of assholes who are a year older than me as opposed to assholes my own age.”

Ashley glanced up at Mitchell who seemed to have things under control. Dodger followed her eyes, and grabbed his jacket from off the floor.

“So…do you see her at all? I mean, my mom said you guys don’t talk much anymore, but I was just wondering, seeing as she’s all miss cheerleader, straight A student now.”

Ashley’s smile began to fade, and she picked again at her belt loop. She longed for the five minutes prior, when she had just met Dodger, her anticipation and nervousness a drug, feeding her inner core, her heart excited by this odd interaction, the idea that someone was watching her because they found her interesting and beautiful.

Now, reality had set in, knowing full well the lecture was going to start, breaking the spell, and forcing her to face the present.

“Um, yah. I don’t see her much. She’s in this class…I saw her come in. You should say hi. I mean, you are her cousin.”

Dodger nodded toward the front of the room, suggesting they take a seat. Ash placed her back over her shoulder and followed Dodger as he headed up the aisle and began sidestepping down an empty row.

He dropped into a seat near the end, tossing his jacket onto the seat next to him.

He folded up his notepad and began to place it under his seat as he spoke.

“Yah, well, maybe. But, you know Mads…”

Ashley leaned back, resting her head upon the back of her chair, staring at the pitch-black ceiling.

Ashley sighed wearily. “Yah…I know Madison.”

    3. I really like your story but I think you should do something about all the jumping around in time in it because sometimes it’s confusing. Maybe you could write in fake dates for each of your posts or something.

    5. To answer questions: No, I didn’t write a story about Shane. Also, I thought about writing in dates for this, and it is still something I may do after I am done. I understand it does get confusing in terms of time placement, however I did want this fic to be somewhat ambiguous; almost as if each post is just a moment in time, and we aren’t always sure exactly when it occurs, but we we learn about the characters within each vignette, and trust me, by the time the finale hits, you will understand everything. However, I haven’t ruled out the dates idea, fionapplefanatic15, so I may go back and do that…don’t be surprised if I implement this concept soon…and thanks for the comments and tips. It means a lot! *wink*
