    A Christmas Waltz – Chapter 1 of 2

“I read some interesting scripts lately,” Tina tried to think of something that might interest her mother.

“What ever happened to that nice Eric?”

The Kennards had met Eric on one of their infrequent trips to Los Angeles.  He was nice-looking.  He was an attorney.  He was clearly interested in Tina.  Mrs. Kennard had never gotten over it.

“One script was about a family who opts to give up their yuppie life and move to the Utah mountains.”

“Is he doing well?  Do you still see him?”

    “He’s fine.”

The food was good at the Kennards, but the presents were few and sensible. As Tina had grown older, she realized that the Christmas experience with her parents seemed to be forced, as though they weren’t really enjoying it.  She remembered one Christmas Eve when she wondered, for the first time, if her parents were really happy with each other.

Although Tina and Bette talked by cell phone as much as possible when they were separated during Christmas, they always managed to disengage themselves quickly from their parents and rush home to each other.

To celebrate Christmas, after the fact, they went out to a great restaurant, came home, and opened the gifts under their very small tree, while listening to Christmas music. But before leaving LA, each had slipped a small present and a card into the other’s luggage so they would have something on Christmas day.

They had both been disappointed, though not surprised, that their parents had opted not to come to their wedding.  But it had created a kind of fortunate break that hadn’t existed before.  Neither woman now felt as obligated to spend Christmas with her parents as she once had.  Since they had been a couple, they had always wanted to spend Christmas together and now they could without feeling guilty-well, not too guilty.

So this wasn’t just their first Christmas as a married couple; it was their first Christmas together…ever.

Tina’s parents had asked her to their house for the holidays…without Bette.  She had declined. Tina was not going to tell Bette this, but she planned to stay in Los Angeles, probably alone when Bette went to Philadelphia.  Maybe Shane would like to spend Christmas day with her, she thought.

    1. Pancha…always enjoy your stories. Love this Christmas B & T. So funny yet cute how childish Bette acts. Tina is just as amusing. Only 2 chapters…hmmm, wishing there was maybe 4. LOL. Thanks for the story…always a pleasure to read one of yours.

    2. Well, pancha, even if you decide to end that last story against my wishes, you have provided me with some hope. I loved your B&T and I think you should actually continue these short segments of them even if the story is not 100 chapters long, just 100 different short stories, but all about the same B&T.

    3. HAHA Nice mention of the Waltons. *thinking back to the honeymoon* If a fir tree is what I’m thinking it is, it is actually way easier to secure ornaments on than a pine. I preferred pine when I was a kid and it was a pain in the ass to decorate. The exchange that happened when Bette brought the tree home reminded me so much of my parents. I could see my mom dragging out boxes of Christmas crap. Well, unless it was still out from the year before. O.o Tina + cello = OMFG. She must have some long fingers for that one… Okay I’ll stop now. Can’t wait for the next chapter!

    4. OH the stress of christmas…But you know itss all worth it in the end!!!this is great a Bette and Tina christmas story…just what we need to destress lol keep it coming love your stories
