    A Christmas Waltz – Chapter 1 of 2

“When are you going home?”  Tina had asked some time before Thanksgiving when they had been discussing Christmas.

Bette didn’t answer right away.  She had looked away from Tina for a few moments and then had looked into her eyes.

“I am home.”  Bette said simply.

So many emotions began running through Tina that she couldn’t respond…not right away.

“I’m staying here for Christmas.  This is my home,” Bette explained.

Bette had been thinking about this for some weeks.  She didn’t want to be anywhere during the holidays except at hers and Tina’s home. She had already told her father about her decision.

Tina put down the trowel she was using to plant herbs out by their pool and walked over to where Bette was standing.  She simply put her arms around Bette and drew her close.

“I never want to spend Christmas again away from you either,” Tina mumbled into Bette’s shoulder.

And so they entered the rite of passage that most people experience.  That time when you don’t go to your parents’ house for Christmas.  That time when your parents’ house is no longer “home.”

When they had decided to spend Christmas together in Los Angeles, they started making plans.  Both were excited, but Tina was able to express her excitement more openly than Bette.  And Bette happily allowed herself to be carried along on Tina’s wave of joyous enthusiasm.

“We’ll cook a Christmas dinner,” Tina began, but then noticed Bette’s doubtful face.

“I’ll cook a Christmas dinner and you’ll supply the drinks.  And you can get the tree.  We’ll have a real Christmas tree this year!”  Tina’s smile was huge.

Their first Christmas argument came over the tree.  Bette wanted pine, with cones and Tina insisted on fir.

“We’ll get pine next year,” concluded Tina and Bette allowed the argument to cease.

Bette had purchased the fir tree from a lot that seemed to stretch forever.

“It was like being in the San Bernardino forest,” Bette gasped as she wrestled the tree into the house.”

Tina had already set up the paraphernalia to hold the tree upright.  After more struggling and much cursing, the tree looked stable.

    1. Pancha…always enjoy your stories. Love this Christmas B & T. So funny yet cute how childish Bette acts. Tina is just as amusing. Only 2 chapters…hmmm, wishing there was maybe 4. LOL. Thanks for the story…always a pleasure to read one of yours.

    2. Well, pancha, even if you decide to end that last story against my wishes, you have provided me with some hope. I loved your B&T and I think you should actually continue these short segments of them even if the story is not 100 chapters long, just 100 different short stories, but all about the same B&T.

    3. HAHA Nice mention of the Waltons. *thinking back to the honeymoon* If a fir tree is what I’m thinking it is, it is actually way easier to secure ornaments on than a pine. I preferred pine when I was a kid and it was a pain in the ass to decorate. The exchange that happened when Bette brought the tree home reminded me so much of my parents. I could see my mom dragging out boxes of Christmas crap. Well, unless it was still out from the year before. O.o Tina + cello = OMFG. She must have some long fingers for that one… Okay I’ll stop now. Can’t wait for the next chapter!

    4. OH the stress of christmas…But you know itss all worth it in the end!!!this is great a Bette and Tina christmas story…just what we need to destress lol keep it coming love your stories
