“Nice to meet you too.” She says and smiles back at him.

“Come in.” He says and steps aside so they can enter.

“Thank you.” Bette says and let Julia enter first. She softly place her hand on Julia’s back for comfort.

He walks into the living room and Bette and Julia follows.

“Can I get you anything to drink?” He asks.

“Maybe water.” Bette says. He looks at Julia, she nods.

“Okay, I’ll be right back.” He says and walks into the kitchen.

“Mom, I’m so nervous.” Julia says.

Bette put her arm around her shoulder.

“It’s okay to be nervous sweetie.” Bette says, she pulls her in and kiss her forehead. “He’s going to love you. Maybe follow his lead.” Bette suggests.

“Yeah, I can do that. Thanks for being here with me.” She says.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.” Bette says and smiles.

“You know that’s not true.” Julia says and smiles.

“Yeah well, having Andrea in my arms at home, would be my favourite place to be right now, but you’re my kid too, and right now, you need me more.  She’ll sleep most of the time anyway.” Bette says and smiles.

“Yeah, I guess.” Julia replies and smiles too.

Peter walks back in with two glasses of water in hand.

“Here you go.” He says and sets it down. And then he takes a seat.

There’s an awkward silence.

“So…” Bette starts.

“Yeah, I’ve thought about what to say, but everything escaped me the moment you knocked on the door. I really don’t know what to say.” Peter says and looks at Julia then at Bette.

“I had it like that in the beginning too, but it passed rather quickly.” Bette says and smiles at Julia.

Peter looks at Julia.

“You look like your mother.” He says and smiles. “How’s school?” He asks.

“School’s fine. I really like it there.” She says. “I want to be a graphic designer. I have one year left.” She adds.

“It’s a good career choice. Creative and exciting.” He says. “My wife is an art person, she owns a gallery.” He adds.

“Cool, I have to go sometime, I love art. Especially new and modern art.” Julia says.

“Yeah, same as her. She’s always displaying new and upcoming artists.” He says.
