Carmen was sitting at the kitchen table going over some mixes that she was going to use at the HIT club tonight. She had just put Shanna done for her nap about two hours ago and Shay was off to school. The house was quiet except for the sound of Carmen’s beats. She realized that her music had changed. It wasn’t super charged with erotic beats, and angry up tempos but more soothing sounds. The audience tonight would have more of a chance to catch their breath before the next song started. She knew that these new feelings were coming from how full her family was now. Carmen laughed to herself she had a family now, her very one family with the love of her life, and she herself was a mother to two beautiful kids. How much have times changed? She didn’t realize how so much could change in the span of two years but she was so very grateful. Just as she was about to loop the mixes together she heard Shanna’s mobile turn on. Her beautiful daughter Shanna, Carmen raced into the nursery and pulled her daughter up close to her, and inhaled her scent. She never realized how much she could love her own child. Her sister Rosa told her that the love would deep and instantaneous but Carmen never anticipated to love her this deep so fast.  She brought Shanna into the kitchen with her and put her in her baby chair, and embarked on her favorite thing to do when she and Shanna were alone. Carmen would stare at Shanna in amazement when they were alone trying to figure her out. Shanna was six months now, and was able to sit in her chair and stare at Carmen back. If Carmen didn’t have the pictures, or the birthing video to prove it one would never believe that Shanna was hers. Her daughters features were now pronounced now and she looked so much like Shane, but not only that she had her personality as well. Shanna was calm, reserved, and seemed to always be in deep thought. She didn’t cry all the time like other babies when she was awake she simply would kick her foot mobile and the music filling the baby monitor would let you know she was up. Shanna was also very choosey of who she gave her smiles too and very selective of who got to hold her. Carmen expected when she was younger that she would have a child whose personality was much like that of her own when she was a baby. Mercedes warned Carmen when she was pregnant to watch out because Carmen had been a loud whiny baby. Hot tempered, and quick to throw a tantrum but Lily assured her that their baby may be like her Shaney was when she was a baby calm and quiet and it was Lily who won that bet. Carmen looked at Shanna more and more and Shanna stared back at her with her piercing green eyes. Carmen sometimes wished that some of herself was in her daughter but she realized that some of herself was. Carmen’s love was in her daughter and she had carried her inside of her for 9 months that bond was there forever, but nonetheless Carmen’s feeling would get hurt sometimes when Shanna preferred Shane over her but they also had a bond that was deeper than that of Carmen’s. Shane was Shanna’s true mother, and Carmen knew that somehow Shanna knew that no matter how much Shane tried to convince her otherwise. Carmen had gone to Bette with her concerns and Bette assured her that as Shanna got older they would have more of bond like Bette and Angie had, it just when they are a baby they know their mother. It’s just instinctual. Carmen heard keys jingling in the lock and look up expecting to see Shane but it was only Alice.
