    And Then…You

James heard the noise and ran into the room to see what happened.

James:  “Bette, Bette are you ok?”

She tried to talk but her racing heart wouldn’t allow her to.

    James:  “I’m calling 911.”

She shook her head no to get him to stop.

James:  “Don’t argue with me, I’m calling.”

15 minutes later the paramedic showed up.  They did an on site diagnosis of her.  They had determined she had either had a sever panic attack or a slight heart attack.  Either way they were going to have to bring her in.

Bette:  “I feel much better now.  I don’t think this is necessary.”

Medic:  “Don’t argue with us Ms. Porter.  We’re going to the hospital now.”

Bette looked at the cell phone still clutched in her right hand.  Still no Stevie.  She again felt her chest tight and started to breathe heavily once more.  This only set the paramedics off more and they immediately put her on the gurney and rolled her out.

Phyllis:  “Bette what’s going on?  Are you ok?”

Bette looked up to Phyllis with pleading eyes.

    Bette:  “Something’s wrong.”

Was all she said before she was wheeled out.

Bette was put into the ambulance by 10:30.  About 30 minutes after calling Stevie.  No way she wouldn’t have at least gotten a text by now.  No way.

She flipped open her phone and dialed Shane.

Shane:  “Hey Bette.  To what do I owe the pleasure?”

Bette got as much of a hold on herself to speak.

Bette:  “Shane, have you seen Stevie today?”

Shane:  “No, she has a busy day today, I wasn’t expecting to.  Are those sirens.”

Bette:  “Yes.  Shane I need you to do me a favor.  Go to my house and check on Stevie, please.”

    Shane:  “Why?  What’s going on?”

Bette:  “I can’t explain right now.  Please don’t argue and check my house.  I’m begging.”

Medic:  “Ma’am you can’t use that on here.”

    Bette:  “Fuck off.”

Shane:  “Ok I’m going.  I’ll call you right back.”

The medic rolled his eyes at Bette then placed an oxygen mask around her face.

Shane immediately went from her back door to the back of the house.  She checked Stevie’s studio.  She didn’t bother knocked.

    Shane:  “Stevie!  Steve?”

She ran to the back, nothing.
