    Beautiful Tuscany Chapter 10

“Thanks, but I’m not helpless you know,” she smiled at Tina from across the room.

“You’re not,” Tina laughed and went on unpacking.

When she finished she laid down on the bed next to Bette. Her eyes lit up from the smile on her face. How time had changed things, how her prayer was answered. Tina was feeling alive again and wanted now to explore all the new feelings creeping into her heart. She wanted not to miss a single minute they could spend together. In an instant, forgiving Bette seemed to be so shallow. Again she thought it’s funny how the accident had opened her eyes. Tina had come to believe she knew the reason Bette had the affair and deep inside, she didn’t care anymore. She wanted that struggle to be over. In an instant her feelings had changed, but what about Bette’s?

The first night back at the villa was good for Bette. It was the second night when she found it hard to sleep. She paced the floor back and forth staring out the window. Many thoughts and feelings rambled around in her head. Things she just couldn’t separate. Tina slept peaceful while Bette fought the torment inside. She felt a yearning for something and began to feel the affects of being cooped up for too long. At last she just slid back under the covers next to Tina. Her face glowed from the light of the moon. Bette lay there thinking back, remembering all she could until finally she fell asleep.

The next morning when Bette woke up the smell of fresh coffee filled air. Tina poured her a cup and brought it to her in bed.

“I thought you might enjoy this.” Tina handed her the coffee.  Bette sipped and smiled.

“Thanks T, but you don’t need to wait on me like this.”

“I don’t consider it waiting on you. I’m happy to have you here Bette and I’m only trying to be helpful.”

Bette took another drink and leaned back on the pillow. “I really need to get out of here today,” she said. She sat the cup on the night stand and got up. When her feet hit the floor she grabbed her head and fell back on the bed.
