    Beautiful Tuscany Chapter 9/ Waiting

“*****, Shane yelled out! I hate this ***** waiting, I should have gone.”

She sat next to Carmen and Dana. Carmen took her hand and asked her to please calm down.

“Carmen she shouted and jumped to her feet! I swear to God, please don’t tell me to calm down.

Thelma asked that she not swear in front of the baby. She apologized to everyone and left the room.

“Girls, Thelma said. I know it’s hard, but you need to pull together not apart. Stay strong for each other. This is no time for selfless acts.

Shane heard what Thelma had said. She walked back into the living room and apologized again. She had never been one who was good at expressing her feeling and she knew Thelma was right. This wasn’t a time to be selfish.

“I’m going she said out loud. If Bette’s not awake in twenty four hours, I’m going over there.”

Dana looked at everyone and then at Shane again. “Me too, she stated. I’m going too.” She put her head down so they wouldn’t see her tears. And with that the three of them agreed to go to Italy, if Bette wasn’t awake soon.

Maria and Anthony stopped by to see Tina and Bette. There had been no change and Maria could apparently see the toll it was taking on Tina. Maria knew she wasn’t eating and surly wasn’t getting enough rest. However the was no way either of them could talk her into leaving. So instead they gave support and comforted her in this trying time.

“Your friends are coming, Maria asked Tina?”

“Yes, her sister Kit and our friend Alice, Tina just stared out the window. She found a sense of peace looking out at the beautiful landscape that surrounded the hospital. “I hope they get here soon, she spoke softly.” She wrapped her arms tightly around her self and laid her head against the wall.

Maria walked closer she hugged Tina and kissed her cheek. “I’m sorry dear, she whispered, we have to be going. “But she said,” Tina looked at her through glassy eyes. “If you need anything you will call, yes?” Tina shook her head and turned back to the window once again. Maria and Anthony left the room. They had left a bag of things they thought Tina might need. Fresh clothes a writing tablet and a few books. She was surprised to see they had brought Bette’s favorite book of poems. She had asked them to bring what ever they could. These things were perfect. Tina sat at Bette’s bed side and began to read. She didn’t stop reading until she had finished. Had she not been so worn out, she thought she would have read it again.
