Breaking Barriers-Loving a Woman & Her Daughter-Chapter 3
Now Bette was angry again. Obviously everything they had discussed in the car earlier had little impact with her daughter. And as for these friends she kept hearing about, well she’d had enough of that.
“Who are these friends Angie? I don’t seem to know any of them and I’m totally unaware of when you are spending any time with these girls! How did you get to be friends with them?” Bette questioned.
Again Angie dropped her head and stared at the paperwork in front of her. For a matter of minutes their was silence and it appeared to Bette that her daughter was not going to answer her. Now she really was finding difficult to control her anger. How was it, that in a matter of about six months she seemed to have totally lost track of her daughter?
“Angie, look at me.” Bette demanded.
By this time Angie knew the trouble she was going to be in when she told her mother the truth, so by the time she lifted her head, tears were pouring from her eyes. Instantly Bette knew that Angie had obviously done something she shouldn’t have. Her daughter knew that tears did often work on her mother. But this was a different situation. Angie had been playing up and being difficult pretty much since the beginning of Summer and her mother and her had a difficult time together as a result. She knew that her mother was at wits end with her and there was not much more that she would be willing to take without exploding! Angie stared at her mother for sometime before she started to formulate words and make a sentence.
“Mummy, I know that their’s certain things that I’m not allowed to do, but I don’t think it’s fair.” Angie started to plead her case again.
“What did you do Angelica?” Bette interrupted her daughter and her ridiculous defense.
Now crying harder and really testing her mothers patience, Angie admitted that she had met these girls on Facebook, something she was not allowed to be on.
“Facebook!” Bette yelled as the chair from underneath her flew out and she started pacing the dining room.
“You know you are not allowed on Facebook. Where have you been doing this? I have it blocked on our computer. All your aunts know you are not allowed on it when you are at there homes, the school blocks it! Where the fuck have you been accessing Facebook ?”Bette demanded angrily.
Again this was a side of her mother that Angie wasn’t use too and it really did scare her.
“I’ve been using it on your phone.” Angie admitted as she started to cry even harder.
Bette looked down at her daughter with disappointment. She had always been so good and abided by the rules. Now here she was, knowingly going behind her mothers back and doing things that she knew she wasn’t allowed to do.
“Angie pack your things up and go up to your room and don’t come down until I call you for dinner. I am going to turn the internet off, so don’t think you will have your computer for company and under no circumstances am I to ever see you with my phone in your hands again. Not to play games, make phone calls, nothing. You and I have a lot to talk about, but right now I am just so sad and disappointed in you Angie that I don’t even want to look at you. Now please go to your room.” Bette asked calmly as she returned to the kitchen to finish preparing dinner.
By this time Angie was distraught. And although it broke Bette’s heart to hear her daughter so upset, she knew that things were getting out of hand. For the past six months Bette had ignored her daughters changed behaviour. Listening to everyone make excuses that she was hormonal and just going through those usual teenage changes. But for Bette this was all much more serious. Her daughter was for the first time in her life deliberately disobeying her and possibly setting herself up for real trouble. No, Bette wasn’t going to listen to the others and their advice on raring children, particularly when none of them had any of there own.
