“Thank you, Head Master Whitley” Angelica answered flushing with pleasure.
Immediately Bette stiffened. Tina felt it and became wary herself.
Extending his hand her saw a coldness that was not there before in the striking brunette’s eyes. He had to tread carefully. “Robert Whitley, Susan’s father” He reached down and put her hand on the cubby little girls shoulder, “and my wife, Karen” He finished the introductions.
“Bette Kennard-Porter and my wife Tina” she shook his hand reluctantly. He was smooth she thought.
“You were great.” Susan told Angelica genuine admiration in her eyes.
“Thanks, you want to come backstage?”
“Could I?” Susan looked at her Mom and Dad who nodded.
“Sure” Angelica led the way Susan like a puppy at her side.
“How is it that you know our daughter?” Bette asked Robert once the girls were out of earshot.
“Bette” Tina warned, concerned that Bette was about to make a scene.
“It’s a reasonable question, T” Bette glanced at her, “considering Robert is the Head Master of the Mann school, which rejected our initial application for Angelica many years ago.”
“You are quite right, Ms. Kennard-Porter. I have been watching Angelica and a number of other students who seem like good candidates for our new dramatic arts program in the upper school next year. We are hoping to create a program similar to Performing Arts in New York. Your daughter is quite talented.”
Karen stepped in then, “Robert, this is not a time to talk business. Please accept our apologies.” She nudged him.
“Agreed.” Tina found her voice. “I didn’t know that the Academy allowed recruiting without notifying the parents. We need to speak with Dean Watts about this Babe.” The idea of someone watching their daughter disturbed her greatly.
“That won’t be necessary.” Robert said smoothly. “Please accept my apologies. I overstepped my bounds being Susan’s father. She auditioned for the play and I happened to see Angelica’s audition as well and was impressed. There is no recruiting campaign going on.” He was nervous now, it would be very bad if this leaked out and cast aspersions on the Mann reputation. The Kennard-Porter’s had a lot of power and influence it was not smart to be on their bad side.

K this was a great chapter explaing to Al how they found out that Bette was pregnant!!
Oh heck yeah, Angelica’s a smart cookie, sharper than her EM by a long shot. “Roey” is too cute… and Head Master Whitley seems a bit of a … I dunno. I just don’t like him. Why did they reject their application all those years ago? Not enough $$ in the Porter-Kennard coffers at the time? Shallow school, their children deserve better. Anyhow, more please! Thanks for the chapter, kelika.

So Angie figured it out first huh, pretty smart for an almost 11 year old.
So we end with Tina telling the insatiably curious Alice, “That’s private.” Will that satisfy Alice or will she pester Tina until she hears every last detail?
