“Glad to hear it” Bette’s smile was thin. “Please excuse us.” She gathered Tina with a hand on her waist and led them away.
“Geez” Tina huffed, “It still takes me by surprise when we are approached like that. The idea of Angelica being a target to get to us is unnerving.”
“We will handle it.” Bette assured her.
Later that evening they had a festive dinner at home. The menu was Angelica’s favorite, macaroni and cheese and creamed spinach. Rowan sat in his high chair at the table happy to see his sister and mothers. He was a happy baby and demanded Angelica’s attention by throwing one of his assorted rubber toys across the table at her. Angelica blinked in surprise.
“You are in so much trouble, little brother” Angelica said sternly. Rowan eyes grew wide as Angelica approached him. “I’m going to have to bite your nose.”
Understanding the familiar game Rowan grinned widely and held out his arms grabbing Angelica’s hair as she pretended to gobble up his nose.
Bette and Tina watched their children play and smiled.
“He’s got you wrapped around his finger, honey.” Tina smirked at Angelica. “Still want a sister? We could send him back.”
Shocked and immediately protective she scooped Rowan out of his chair which anyone could see was his intent. “You can’t really do that, can you?” She looked from Mom to Mama suspiciously. “Don’t worry Roey” she murmured in his ear. “I’ve got your back.” He responded by leaning his head against her shoulder and gazing at his Moms as if he understood.
She sat back down this time with her brother in her lap. Still keeping an eye on her mothers she began to eat. Her eyes narrowing in just the same way Tina’s did when she saw something she didn’t like. Mama was about to eat a forkful of spinach when she got that sick look on her face like before.
“Mama” she cried out in sudden understanding “are you pregnant again?”
Bette struggled with the wave of nausea so she did not see Tina grow pale beside her. Angelica watched both of them with interest. “Mom” Angelica cried with concern as she saw Mom’s hand shake as she reached for a glass of wine.
“So ED (earth daughter) figured it out first?” Alice beamed, that was almost as good as being the one.
“Yes EM (earth mother) she did.” Tina shook her head correctly guessing that Alice was patting Angelica on the back in her mind.
“So how did she know?”
“Apparently Bette gets nauseous when she sees or smells certain foods when she is in her early pregnancy. Angelica picked up on her sudden aversion to creamed spinach.”
“Oh” Alice responded thoughtfully filing the information away. “So then what happened?”
‘That’s private.” Tina smiled frustrating Alice once again.

K this was a great chapter explaing to Al how they found out that Bette was pregnant!!
Oh heck yeah, Angelica’s a smart cookie, sharper than her EM by a long shot. “Roey” is too cute… and Head Master Whitley seems a bit of a … I dunno. I just don’t like him. Why did they reject their application all those years ago? Not enough $$ in the Porter-Kennard coffers at the time? Shallow school, their children deserve better. Anyhow, more please! Thanks for the chapter, kelika.

So Angie figured it out first huh, pretty smart for an almost 11 year old.
So we end with Tina telling the insatiably curious Alice, “That’s private.” Will that satisfy Alice or will she pester Tina until she hears every last detail?
