GETTING TO THE GOOD PART—Ch. 1

John nodded his head and smiled at the sight of Bette looking around the room. “Ms. Peabody will Tina be joining you?”

Bette’s ears perked up at the mention of Tina in hopes that Tina was the beautiful blond and that she would be joining them.

“No she has a prior comment she should be leaving shortly.”

Bette felt disappointed and she wasn’t sure why she was so drawn to this woman. Bette turned toward Peggy when she heard John make his leave.

“Ms. Peabody it’s so good to see you again and you have a beautiful home.” Bette put her hand out to shake Peggy’s hand.

“Bette I’m only going to tell you once call me Peggy, and this isn’t my house. This house belongs to my daughter-in-law she’s kind enough to take me in when I’m in town. Now I hope I didn’t disrupt your day too much by asking you over for lunch.”

“Nothing that couldn’t be rescheduled. I am a bit curious as to why I’m here.”

Peggy made a gesture for Bette to sit down.

“I want to get to know you Bette, you are the art director to the board that I am now serving on and granted I don’t typically take a hands on approach to many of the boards I serve on but I have taken an interest in the CAC. The CAC has been on the rise since they employed you in the position of art director and after spending some time with Franklin I can see that you’re bearing the brunt of the work which is why I told them to give you a raise. I approved that grant proposal that you submitted to my foundation I know…”

Bette looked a bit surprised. “Franklin didn’t tell me that the proposal was approved.”

“Darling he doesn’t know yet. The official list won’t be posted for two more days. Now as I was saying since I just approved the fairly sizable grant proposal that you submitted it comes with one stipulation.”

    “Anything.”

Peggy grinned. “My dear Bette I do not think you’re going to be so eager once you hear the condition.”

    1. HEY T! YOU HAVE ANOTHER WONDERFULL STORY STARTING AND IT SHOULD BE QUIET INTERESTING TK AN ARTIST.YOU CANT LEAVE US HANGING.you said you had alot things going on butt you have to find the time to come back for updates for both stories..tk a daughterinlaw not for long with bette around!

    2. Toribio…this was absolutely wonderful. It really evoked images of what your narration describes. I hope you’ll continue it. If you do, it is sure to be one of the seminal pieces. It grabbed me…it’s really quite good. Please continue.

    3. Oh, no you didn’t just leave me hangin like that! Hmph, the nerve! LOL! Come on, you’re killing me here! I have tpo know if it was Tina she turned around and saw. i bet it was…. uess I’ll have to wait and see. Please post soon!

    4. i think you should continue with that…so tina is a daughter-in-law? and this is her who just came in? i hope bette won’t get involved with helena again

    5. This story is going to be full of twists and turns. Bette has to meet with Helena 3 times a month and TIna is an artist, who is Peggy’s daughter in law…..interesting. How long before Bette gets Tina to express her “artistic” abilities in a personal setting ? LOL! Please continue….

    6. Yes you should continue this story. I believe that Bette has found her next artist for the upcoming show. I hope that Tina is not with Helena and that the daughter in-law statement was more of a passing issue. It would not be a good situation for Bette to take Tina away from a Peabody.

    7. A T&B beginning, love them. I hope you continue with this one…Tina is PP’s Daughter-in-Law, now is it through Helena, PP has another Daughter or is it the Son. And to top it T is an Artist. Great Start, looking forward to reading more. Thanks.

    8. I’m hooked! I love any story that features Bette and Peggy. But better than that I love the twist you’ve put on things w/ Bette having already had a failed relationship w/ Helena. This should be very interesting…..Is Tina married to Helena or does Peggy have other children? So excited to read where you go with this story. You are off to a great start so please continue.

    9. Wow T this sounds like another great story! Franklin is an ass through and through. And it’s really not cool for Peggy Peabody to force her daughter in Bette’s face – it’s unethical on Peggy’s part to put Bette into that position. Peggy should pay to have her daughter educated elsewhere…you know she could tell that Bette didn’t want to do this part of the “proposition.” I wonder if Peggy has alterior motives. Tina as an artist sounds very inspirational. Can’t wait for more!

    10. Het Tori, A brilliant beginning. Fabulous to have the gang together and having a blast. Bette was overwhelmed by the beauty she saw on the beach and here’s hoping it is the same beauty now asking her if she needs some assistance. Terrific twist to have Tina (I hope) as the artist even if Bette has to put up with teaching Helena about art. Maybe Bette could use Tina’s paintings as an illustration. Getting to know the painter can only help appreciate the art. As always you have crafted a beautiful drama here. Full of promise and excitment. Please continue soon. A Fan.
