    I Know…….I Saw it (19)

    Previously…….

They spent the next moments in silence saying their goodbye’s to their father and left the hospital.

They all knew that this day was coming and Melvin had prepared them the best way he could. There was a sense of piece within the three as they made their way to the planet each knowing that Melvin had made his piece with them.

‘’ You girls go get a table and I’ll get the coffees.’’ Kit said as they entered.

Both Bette and Tina made their way to the back of the planet as they just wanted some alone time and not answer twenty questions.

‘’ You doing ok babe?’’ Tina asked as they both took a seat.

‘’ You know T, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I don’t mean that he was a burden or anything, but I can honestly say that seeing him go like that, peacefully I mean, I know he didn’t suffer.’’

‘’You know we spoke a few days ago and he told me he was so proud of me, sticking to my guns about you and us. ‘’He said that he knew he would always lose to you if ever he made me choose. He knew that we loved each other unconditionally. I asked how he knew and he simply said’’ ‘’he knew because he saw it!’’

    Chapter 19

True to his word Melvin had arranged everything for his funeral; from the flowers to the readings apart from the reading that Bette gave in the chapel that ensured that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Both Bette and Kit couldn’t believe that Melvin was so very well known, that the chapel was packed to the rafters and people from all over the country came to pay their respects even those he knew back in the sixties.

Back at the Planet as ex-colleagues, friends and even Mrs Harrison joined the family to say their farewell to Bette and Kit. They all had tails to tell them about the man as a youngster would creep into gardens late at night and steel fruit off trees or go off for days at a time only to return with some tail about his travels. They even shared stories about both Bette and Kit’s moms, how much he loved them both, so much in different ways and that although he knew he had broken the heart of Kit’s mom, he was truly proud to be her father.
