I Will Follow You Into The Dark – Chapter Twelve

“You do know what I’m thinking right now, do you?” she asked.

I raised an eyebrow. “No way, Shane. Get in any girls’ pants, but not in my parent’s bed.”

“You deeply disappoint me, T.” Shane gave me the innocent puppy-look. “I was not thinking about that at all. I was thinking you should bring some girl home.”

“And have sex in my parent’s bad? You are sick, Shane.”

“Gee, T! I wasn’t even talking bout that. You could have sex… I honestly can imagine you don’t want to do that in the bed your parents do it in.”

    “Gross, Shane, gross. Change subject.”

    “So, looking forward to tomorrow?”

“Yeah, kinda. You know, just relax a bit, after all what’s been going on.”

I really missed Bette and Shane knew it, but we didn’t talk about it. I wanted to kiss Bette, but I had to be strong, very strong. If I wanted to make a point, there was no way I could give in. If I really wanted her, I needed to let her go for a while. I needed to leave her alone.

    Bette Porter narrative

I was alone at home. Dad was on a business trip and Kit was once again nowhere to be seen. I hated my sister for not being there, but she couldn’t help me anyway.

I missed Fiona. I had to let her go, it was the only way I could get to Tina, but it was just so damn hard. Fiona had changed my life, had changed me. She had showed me another world, what was beyond. She showed me where my home was, what I really longed for.

But Fiona was gone now and I was still here. I knew she probably had forgotten about me already. She didn’t deserve me to mourn over her for that long. If she had known she’d probably laugh at me and think I’m a loser.

She was hard, in a way. She seemed to hate emotions and when I cried she wouldn’t wrap her arms around me but tell me to dry my tears and get over myself. Someone crying got her on her nerves, it even made her angry at times.

As time passed by, I had been able to see Fiona in different ways and deep in my heart I knew what kind of person she was and that it was not what I wanted. But there was still the memory of her skin, her smell, her passionate kissing.
