“I’m happy for you..” Tina whispered to me, stroking my head and twirling strands of my curly brown mane – tangling it in her fingers. “Do you feel good?”
“I feel better.”
“Like a weight has been lifted?”
“Uh-huh.”
“The lay-offs weren’t the cause..”
“It wasn’t.” I allowed myself to smile and burrow against the crook of her neck. Boy, I can see her cleavage very well from this angle. Yum.
“You’ve been absolved.”
“Maybe.”
“Maybe?”
“Not entirely.” I purse my lips in thought. “I still have to take responsibility for people being fired in the first place..”
“How?”
“I don’t know yet. But I’ll make it up somehow when I become CEO..”
“Hey, speaking of being CEO..” She nudges me. “Congrats by the way, James said you were amazing at the office.”
“He’s a liar. I was a crappy temp.”
“He says that some people were impressed.”
“The operative word being some.”
“Aw c’mon, give yourself more credit.”
“But I sucked.”
“Not possible.”
“You love me. You’re biased.”
“You think I love you?”
“You wouldn’t be cradling me in your arms like a baby if you didn’t.”
“You’re a baby?”
“I’m your baby.”
“You’re too old to be my baby.”
“Fine, then I’ll be another person’s baby.”
“No chance in hell. You’re mine.” She places a succession of kisses on my head. “And mine alone.”
“Possessive.”
“I prefer territorial.”
“Its the same.”
“But ‘territorial’ sounds more intimidating.”
“You want to be intimidating?”
“Yes.”
“But you don’t even scare me..”
“I don’t?”
“…”
“See, you’re scared of me.”
“No I’m not.”
“Why’d you go all silent then?”
“I was holding down a burp.”
“No you weren’t.”
Urrrrrrrrrrrppppppp.
“…”
“See?”
“Your breath stinks of alcohol.”
“And yours reek of chocolate and..” Sniff. “..Doritos.”
“You can tell I ate that from smelling my breath?”
“No. You have some of it stuck between your teeth.”
“Oh.”
“I have some floss inside my purse. Want some?”

Alch, you really are a brilliant writer. The way you flip back and forth, moving from describing Bette’s inner most turmoil to humorous quips between Bette and Tina amazes me. I don’t know about pharmaceuticals, but you sure could have a career in writing! Fabulous updates…it will be a long wait for the next, but well worth it I’m sure.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking, and full of surprise 3 chapters. All the agony that Bette put herself through and finding out that she was not the cause of Eric’s death. I like her idea of taking down the evil couple. Will she hire the ones that lose their jobs by taking down the evil couple, and will she have the ability to rehire those that lost their employment because of her actions of her childhood?
That was awesome!
