Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Twenty Two, Part Three (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

So you see, I am no better than them.

That’s the one thing that’s bothering me now: the promise I made to Tina. I told her that I was going to cut Jill out of my life the moment the deal between our two companies was signed – cruelly, efficiently. I was hellbent on fulfilling this vow a few days back, doesn’t matter if I had a hard time struggling with my conscience for what I was about to do. But now.. things are different.

I was absolved from my guilt.. yet I still feel it weighing down on me like a curse from heaven. What makes me different from those selfish people? Like them, my planned deception and abandonment was going to kill yet another part of my friend. Let’s face it, Jillian didn’t deserve to be treated this way. By me, by her family, by her friends.. by anyone who had a conscience.

I don’t want to disappoint Tina; but I don’t want to hurt Jill either.

Can I make one happy without sacrificing the happiness of the other?

Fuck.. the drama! I roll my eyes and run a hand through my hair. God, kill me now!

“Hey,” I sigh wearily, looking at Eric’s niche. “Got any space in there for another person?” I chuckle to myself.

A sudden gust of wind blew out the candle and made the hairs at the back of my neck stand on end.

“Jeez, I was kidding!” I shriek and hurry out of the mausoleum, my tail in between my cowardly legs. Sure as hell not paying Eric a visit ever again.

    tbc..

    Next: The Ice Queen.

(Since I won’t be posting the next one anytime soon.. here’s a tiny spoiler/preview. This is still written in Bette’s POV – but it might change. J)

“I’m so sorry..” I tell her with a ragged breath, my voice breaking like my resolve. She pulls back, keeps me in arms length and looks at me intently, her eyes filled with questions – her worried hazel ones searching my own pair for answers. My brown eyes, riddled with uncertainty and fear, could only avert its gaze and shift down to my lap – fearful and cowardly. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to do. So instead of answering her unspoken questions, I let my lips quiver.. my eyes water.. and my voice tremble. “I’m sorry..” I tell her again. And again. And again. Until I could say no more words and sobs replaced my pathetic attempt at apologizing. She just pulled me in, held me tight and kept my crumbling self together – enveloping me in her warmth, her safety, her strength. There is no other truth than the fact that she is my glue. She holds me together when everything about me seems to be breaking apart.

If Tina and I we’re going to make our lives together, then she deserves the best version of me. Honest. Truthful. Worthy of her trust. Unburdened by guilt. Free of deceit.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, my face buried in her chest. “I can’t.. I won’t be that kind of person. I.. I can’t do it.”

    “Do what babe?”

“I can’t turn my back on her. I won’t be like them.”

    2. I love your long updates, so i really enjoyed all the three chapters. I’m glad things are getting solved and hopefully Tina will accept Bette and Jill’s friendship.. You’re awesome. Thanks for posting!

    3. Alch, you really are a brilliant writer. The way you flip back and forth, moving from describing Bette’s inner most turmoil to humorous quips between Bette and Tina amazes me. I don’t know about pharmaceuticals, but you sure could have a career in writing! Fabulous updates…it will be a long wait for the next, but well worth it I’m sure.

    4. i get so excited when i see you have posted, i absolutely luv how you write bette/tina, i luv the way you play with their relationship. can’t wait for more!!

    5. Bette has a lot on her plate, she’s doing the right thing, and I have faith that Tina will be more understanding. Cause she’s Tina and she’s put up with so much. Take your time with the posts and thanks for the warning. Thanks Alchy.

    6. Okay, you mentioned youre not gonna be able to update in a few weeks. But we have long weekend in plain sight?! :D Im back to my little cocoon then, loving the sweet talks between Bette and Tina. But seems the drama isnt over yet from your little snippet Alchemy! Thanks for the update

    7. What a beautiful, heartbreaking, and full of surprise 3 chapters. All the agony that Bette put herself through and finding out that she was not the cause of Eric’s death. I like her idea of taking down the evil couple. Will she hire the ones that lose their jobs by taking down the evil couple, and will she have the ability to rehire those that lost their employment because of her actions of her childhood?
