But now I know, my hands were clean – at least with regards to Eric’s death. That was a load off my back, but honestly, I don’t feel as good or as relieved about it as I should’ve been.
I did a lot of thinking last night, and after hours of reflection, I realized something.
“You’re not the victim here.” I whisper to the wind, my eyes fixated on the marble niche that housed Eric’s mortal body. Or bones. Or worms. Whatever.
No, Eric Walker was not the victim.
It was Jill.
It was her. It was her all along.
His wife, his bestfriend, his widow.
Jill.. who was abandoned by her husband.. who was lied to by her father.. who was betrayed by the woman she treated like a sister.
She was the unfortunate victim of cruel circumstances – of the acts of selfish people.
And now I wonder.. how am I different from them? I am made from the same deceitful cloth. Like Eric.. like William.. like Cherie and Vince, I would be dealing a crushing blow to an already fragile heart. After her husband died, Jill had a hard time really letting people in – she was friendly and cordial to everyone, but only few were able to see the real her. I was one of those special people that she felt comfortable enough with to let her guard down. She’d tell me her secrets, talk to me about Eric, share her dreams, her art, her laughter. I know she was at ease with me – no matter how much of an asshole I am sometimes. Tina might be right; Jill may have feelings for me – but I don’t let thoughts of this get in the way of our friendship. I wasn’t scared about her making moves on me or taking advantage of our close yet very much platonic relationship – she wasn’t like that hobbit Kate, she wasn’t an opportunistic leech. Besides, she seemed to be dead set on trudging the hetero path these days.
Jill trusts me wholeheartedly. She cherishes our friendship. Along with Marcus Allenwood, she considers me as one of her bestfriends. I have Jill’s delicate heart in my hands – and with my impending betrayal, I’m going to crush it like those other people have.

Alch, you really are a brilliant writer. The way you flip back and forth, moving from describing Bette’s inner most turmoil to humorous quips between Bette and Tina amazes me. I don’t know about pharmaceuticals, but you sure could have a career in writing! Fabulous updates…it will be a long wait for the next, but well worth it I’m sure.

What a beautiful, heartbreaking, and full of surprise 3 chapters. All the agony that Bette put herself through and finding out that she was not the cause of Eric’s death. I like her idea of taking down the evil couple. Will she hire the ones that lose their jobs by taking down the evil couple, and will she have the ability to rehire those that lost their employment because of her actions of her childhood?
