Just The Girl – Chapter Thirty (a HYD-inspired fic)
“Over there.” Past the wooden bridge and towards a small shed near the lagoon, Bette led Tina by the hand as they walked through the uneven stone path and stopped in front of a parked golf cart.
“Where are we going?” Tina asked as she was helped inside the passenger seat by the brunette.
Bette walked around and made herself comfortable in front of the wheel. “It’s a surprise.” She smiled mysteriously, opening the glove compartment and grabbing the keys from inside.
“Another surprise?” Tina lifted an eyebrow as she held on tight to the small box on her lap. This night was just full of surprises.. pleasant and otherwise. “Why am I the one who’s always on the receiving end of surprises tonight?” She shook her head in amusement. The birthday girl playfully shrugged and started the cart.
“Hold on, okay?” Bette glanced at Tina before they pulled out of the cart’s parking spot and drove up a rather steep slope. She silently laughed when the blonde followed her advice and held on to a small handle on the edge of her seat for dear life. “I was thinking more along these lines..” She smirked and proceeded to grab her date’s cold and clammy hand and entwine it with her own, all the while expertly steering the small vehicle with her other hand.
“Is this safe?” Tina gripped Bette’s hand tightly when the cart finally reached the top of the small hill. “Shouldn’t you be driving with two hands?” She swallowed nervously, eyeing the scary-looking downhill path. Images of the small tires slipping and the two of them rolling down taunted her paranoid mind. Oh man, she gulped, it’ll be like Jack and Jill.. only this time there were two Jills and both of them were gay, her mind joked in the midst of her overwhelming fear.
“Don’t worry..” Bette squeezed Tina’s hand when she saw the blonde’s ashen face under the soft illumination from the moon. “I’ve driven through this path a million times before.” She flashed her a reassuring smile. She held on to the blonde’s scared gaze for a few moments before she was rudely slapped back to look at where she was driving by Tina. “Owww!” Bette cried out in pain, dropping the blonde’s hand and rubbing her smarting mug. She was sure as hell that she would wake up with a bruised face tomorrow morning. If tonight was full of surprises for the blonde, it was chock full of pain for her and her abused cheek.
