    Mrs. Thompson beamed happily and was about to say something but they were interrupted by Katie’s scream, “Oh it hurts so much.” They all rushed toward her and Bette held her sister’s hand very tight while the doctor examined her. “Okay, lets pulled her up a little. Elizabeth, would you please hold her and the

    Mrs. Thompson beamed happily and was about to say something but they were interrupted by Katie’s scream, “Oh it hurts so much.” They all rushed toward her and Bette held her sister’s hand very tight while the doctor examined her.

    “Okay, lets pulled her up a little. Elizabeth, would you please hold her and the rest of you, give Mrs. Thompson some room. It’s time.”

    The midwife spread Katie’s knees, “Keep pushing, the baby is coming for sure.”

    “I can’t, please don’t make me do this anymore.”

    “It’s okay, Katie. It’s almost over. Just one more time,” Bette whispered into her ear, while holding her hand. Katie took a deep breath and pushed, screaming and clenching her hands.

    “I can see the baby’s head, dear. Keep pushing,” the midwife said reassuringly. “It’s almost over.”

    Finally, after more pushing and screaming, when Bette’s hand was so numb she couldn’t feel anything, a crying baby was delivered into the midwife’s hands. Katie fell back on a pillow, breathing hard, tears running down her face. Mrs. Thompson cut the cord with a clean knife and Maxine brought a clean blanket to wrap around the infant. “Honey, it’s a boy. A beautiful baby boy.”

    Katie nodded with exhaustion and smiled, “He’s so tiny, is he okay?”

    Bette smiled back at her. “Yes he is. You have a son.” The midwife took the baby so she could clean him and everyone began to relax a little.

    Christina gave Bette a hug, kissing her on a cheek. “I’m glad I came in time to see that. You have a nephew, what a joy that is. I just hope I am ready to go through this myself next month.”

    “Of course you will.” Bette turned around to look at her sister. Mrs. Thompson finished bathing the baby and rested him on his mother’s breast. He stopped crying and Bette looked at him with delight, touching his little fingers that were clutching Katie’s disheveled hair.

    Maxine looked at both of her daughters and smiled tiredly. “We need to clean everything up and change the sheets. And Katie needs to wash up and rest.”

    “Mother, you need to rest yourself. You’ve been up this whole time,” Bette said softly. “Mrs. Thompson and I will take care of everything.” The midwife nodded and picked up the little boy to place him in the bassinet that David built for him. Doctor went with her to check on the baby who was fast asleep already.

    3. Omg everyone’s coming back to write again I see. I have you on my list of authors to read I haven’t been able to read all your chapters yet but man I so wished I read them already as I am dying to reading this post it seems so intriguing. Yes you`re back iv missed this story so much please don’t leave it to long for the next chapter loved it and so pleased Katie came through the birth it so simple those times if only they new to wash you hands and sterilise the medical tools just how many mothers and babies could have been saved pps.

    7. When I saw this post I went back to Chapter 1 and have now read the whole story to date. I have thoroughly enjoyed such a different concept written with familiar characters with humour and drama.
