    Bette was sitting close to Christina, watching her and thinking of the girlfriend she left behind in the future. She missed Tina terribly. She felt like a newlywed, always wanting to be around her, see her, touch her. She hoped that those feelings would never go away, even after the novelty of being with someone

    Bette was sitting close to Christina, watching her and thinking of the girlfriend she left behind in the future. She missed Tina terribly. She felt like a newlywed, always wanting to be around her, see her, touch her. She hoped that those feelings would never go away, even after the novelty of being with someone might pass. She hoped that even after being together for many, many years they still will love each other with passion, just as when they first met.

    Time was slowly ticking away and Bette could sense that Christina was getting tired. She was in no condition to sit around or helping with delivery and Bette told her to go downstairs to get some rest. Daniel and David left earlier to take care of a few business affairs but Maxine refused to rest, insisting on helping Dr. Taylor and Mrs. Thompson. Bette wanted to be there for Katie, as well. She loved her so fiercely and throwing away the antibiotics was the hardest thing she had to do.

    She looked at her exhausted sister as another contraction hit and Katie cried in pain. Instantly, regret washed over her and Bette was about to run outside in search of the pills but Katie grabbed her arm, “Don’t leave…not again.”

    “No, of course not,” Bette rubbed Katie’s hand, taking a cool cloth from Mrs. Thompson and wiping her sister’s forehead. The midwife moved closer to examine Katie’s stomach and check the progress but Bette stopped her. “Will you please wash your hands with the soap…and arms, as well? Please, it’s important.”

    “What? Are you telling me how to do my job, for heaven’s sake?”

    “Of course I’m not but I must insist.” Bette turned around and asked the servant girl to bring hot water. “I spent the last few months in the place where the doctors and midwives practice this and I heard it helps to prevent infections.”

    Katie doubled in pain from another wave of contractions and Mrs. Thompson pointed at her with confusion on her face, “The baby is coming any time now and you want me to wash my hands?”

    “Yes, and if baby’s coming, you’d better do it quickly.”

    The midwife mumbled something under her breath but rolled up her sleeves and began washing her arms with the small piece of soap in the basin that Mary placed on the table near the bed. Bette watched her like a hawk, making sure she was doing it right. Doctor Taylor walked in to check on the patient, followed by Christina who looked rested and not as pale as before. The doctor glanced at the midwife with surprise. “Why, Mrs. Thompson, what a wonderful idea. I’ve been trying to encourage everyone I’m working with to do that. Would you please clean the knife and the instruments, as well?”

I have you on my list of authors to read I haven’t been able to read all your chapters yet but man I so wished I read them already as I am dying to reading this post it seems so intriguing. Yes you`re back iv missed this story so much please don’t leave it to long for the next chapter loved it and so pleased Katie came through the birth it so simple those times if only they new to wash you hands and sterilise the medical tools just how many mothers and babies could have been saved pps.

    7. When I saw this post I went back to Chapter 1 and have now read the whole story to date. I have thoroughly enjoyed such a different concept written with familiar characters with humour and drama.
