Labor of love (Alice and Tina have a secret rendezvous with Professor Kroll; Bette’s sister goes into labor)
“Me too. Today was so crazy,” Alice nodded.
They walked into the kitchen, following the smell of something delicious.
Tina stopped dead on her tracks as she noticed a lavish bouquet of red and yellow roses on the table. “Where did this come from?”
“Oh, they were delivered for you earlier, Tina. There’s a card, which we didn’t read,” Shane winked and handed Tina a small card that was attached to the bouquet.
Tina read the card and shook her head. “Oh crap. I don’t need this.”
“Who send them, honey?” Kit asked as she turned off the oven, taking out deliciously smelling casserole.
“Helena Peabody,” Tina sighed. “I thought that she got the message that I’m unavailable.”
“Some women, especially as arrogant and posh as Helena, never get it,” Kit shook her head.
“And there was also a menacing looking chica in overalls who was knocking on a door for half an hour asking for Bette to come out and play,” Carmen added with a giggle. They were all clearly enjoying the situation.
“Now I know you are lying. You all had met Candace and even she wouldn’t dare to come here.”
“Okay, okay, you are right. I just made it up,” Carmen admitted. “Just seemed like a good joke at the time, giving your sordid history with those two nut cases.”
Tina and Alice joined the laughter as they all settled around the table for dinner.
“So, how was your meeting?” Kit asked.
“The professor is one of these ‘beautiful minds’ scientists,” Alice replied, making quotes gesture. “He sees conspiracy everywhere, doesn’t trust anyone and the numbers on the black boards are like poetry to him.”
Alice passed the iPhone around with the photo of the board for everyone to study. “I swear, these mathematicians and theorists put the numbers and doodles on a board to make it look sophisticated and meaningful but to me they are just numbers and doodles.”
“The gist of it is that, according to Professor Kroll’s configurations and calculations, the portal will be open a total of five complete cycles. Something to do with infinity and a circle of life theory,” Tina explained. “He determined from his research that, before Alice, the portal was opened by someone traveling through it at least two times and it always closes in the past.”
