    Bette, Tina, Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Helena, Dylan, Kit, Angus, Peggy, and Marilyn discover what John Lennon said in the song, “Beautiful Boy” is absolutely true: “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”

    “My ovulation in August was when we tried the first time.  So not in August or September, but we hit or rather, Howie’s sperm hit the target in October.”

    Tina shook her head and grinned.  “Bette’s going to be so excited.  We’re going to be the God slash Earth Mothers, right?”

    “Yeah, absolutely.  But Tina, don’t tell anyone but Bette.  I mean, it’s still early on and anything could happen.  We don’t want to have to explain…” 

    “I understand.  I’ve been there.”  They hugged again and left the bathroom.

    Outside, Angus and Bette were in deep discussion.  That is, Angus was very animated while Bette humored him in the conversation.  “First, it takes no time at all.”  Angus said with such enthusiasm that his hair swayed as he spoke.  “You just fire up the deep fryer and let ‘er rip.  It’s like three minutes per pound versus, you know…forever.”

    “I don’t know.  I don’t think I’d like it.”

    “You’d love it.  Growing up in Houston that’s what we had every Thanksgiving, fried turkey.  It’s so good.  It’s not like fried chicken.  Nothing like it.  Kit’s had it.  Right, Kit?” Angus called out the last question.

    “Yep.  That’s right.”  Kit sipped her water.

    Dana said, “What is Angus talking about?”

    “I have no idea.  I always say ‘yep, that’s right’ to him.  He’s happy with it.”

    “See what I mean, Bette?” Angus was directing his talk about the joys of fried turkey to Bette who wasn’t the least bit interested. 

    Bette slowly backed away.  “Hey, Shane, you’re from Texas, you ever had fried turkey?”

    Shane nodded her head slowly. 

    “I wonder which one of you has the best recipe for it,” Bette suggested to Angus who jumped at the bait and sidled up to Shane to talk turkey.

    Dana looked at Kit.  “I bet if we ask Shane about this conversation in an hour, she won’t even remember it.”

    “She stoned?” Kit asked.

    “So says my brother and Alice.”

    “Alice and Howie kinda act alike—real outgoin’ and saying whatever pops into their heads.”

    “Uh-huh.  Too bad Howie doesn’t act more like me.  We’re really different.”

    “Why too bad?”

    “Well…”  Dana sat in the chair next to Kit and whispered, “Please don’t tell anyone, but we’ve been using Howie as a sperm donor and today we did a pregnancy test and Alice is pregnant.  Don’t tell.  The three of us promised that we’d keep it to ourselves for a while.”

My favourite couple have obviously been dana and alice, and you’ve written them and their story just perfectly, how it should have been, for me anyway. It has always amazed me how you wound the pieces of the series into this complete work. I love where you have taken all of them and how it was so true to the characters we have know. That for me is remarkable. Jenny’s death in season 5 and her magazine being thrown in the pool – what can I say, your attention to detail is a gold standard in fanfic. Kudos to you and also Wendy for creating this wonderful story.

    13. I read this chapter as slowly as I could so that I could savor every word of it. It was worth me taking the time, although I was fully aware that each time I clicked “Next page” I was that much closer to the finish. This was a fantastic end to such a richly layered story. Everyone got their ending, and each and every one of them earned it… the struggles each couple/family had to overcome to get to their happiness made it all the more believable. You didn’t cheat, Portia, not the readers, not the story. This has been such an absolute treat to read, through all the highs and lows, and I’ve loved every single word of it. (And kudos for not forgetting Jenny this chapter! heh) Thank you, Portia, for writing this story and taking us on the journey with you. Take care, and I hope we see another story from you soon.

    18. well after about a month and a half im finally finish with your story and as I wrote you before I truly believe you are a gift to writing and taking readers along for the experience. I had to stop several times for work or sleep but it was well worth the time. I prolonged finishing the last chapter didn’t want t see it end, but like the L word, like tibette chemistry, all good things but come to end….Bravo!! my friend I hope to see a book with your name on it forreal..til next story………

You did an absolutely remarkable job with this. The story telling, the storyline, the interweaving of the characters, seasons, cannon and AU was beyond incredible. You have amazing talent and I hope to read more of your incredible work. Amazingly done!
